The Athletic Department decided to seat hundreds of cheer kids who were performing at halftime where the Autry Army normally sits. I saw Autry Army t-shirts mixed in with the crowd on the SW side.

The BOB (Basketball Owl Band) was squeezed as well, unable to expand beyond the box that's set aside for us (and is too small for 30 performers, some with very large instruments).

I'm not faulting the Athletic Department - this was about the only available choice, if they're going to invite this many kids to perform.

The cheer kids left after halftime, but the students didn't move back to their usual spots. There was one student who managed the 3-point cards for much of the game.

Other than that, it was perhaps the most butts-in-seats that I've seen for a game this season. Was there a two-fer package, with admission to both basketball and baseball, or just Rice sports fans going the extra mile with two events?

There was a buy one, get one free, promo, with Pera supposedly paying for the freebie. The Reckling crowd was the largest in a couple years; I'm guessing 3,500+ butts in seats.

In Tudor? I know the reported attendance at Reckling was just over 4,000.

RE: MBB vs. Charlotte
While the Owls had too many turnovers Saturday, their overall game plan and defense was solid. Charlotte was never really in the game. I have said it several times his season but Drew Peterson has really become the on court leader. Charlotte pushed him around a good deal every time he touched the ball but his fade away jumper was deadly. He has to work on lower body strength during the off-season. It was also great to see the team hit their free throws after Robert Martin missed his first two.

My gut says the Owls win 3 of their final 4 games, based largely on their improving defense and their ability to score from a number of positions. I can tell you that my “gut” is usually wrong!

Ok good thanks. Was worried we had transitioned from low student attendence to no student attendence.

Yes, that's the announced MBB attendance.

Thanks for compiling this. But I know your UAB breakdown isn't right because they were 7-7 overall (including a loss to us), and you've got them 9-5 if you break down their 3 pods' records. I also don't believe it's possible for a non-Pod 3 team (like Charlotte) to have less than 4 games against Pod 3 teams. I didn't add up the records of the other teams to see if any other squads are wrong - I just know we beat UAB so I noticed their numbers were off.

It does show you that Rice and USM over-achieved against the better teams and under-performed against the worst teams in conference. And UTEP feasted on the bottom-feeders.

Yeah, Peterson has had an interesting career at Rice so far, but his talent is showing now...leading the team in both rebounds and assists and not far behind in scoring

As much as one tries to proofread, something always slips through.... UAB was 3-2 against Pod 3, and Charlotte was 2-2.

Before the season, if I had said that Rice would finish 3-3 before Bonus Play against Pod 1 teams, I think we'd all have expected a pretty high standing in the conference. Note that only four teams had non-losing records against Pod 1, and the three other than the Owls were the top three in conference play. It's not like Rice just scraped by in the three wins, either - they were by 14, 9, and 16 points. Bizarre....

MBB vs. Charlotte
We try to play to our level of competition, but we over-do it on both ends.

Er, just maybe on the bottom end.

Good news: if we grab the 12 seed we’ll likely only play pod 1 opponents in Frisco
