Virginia Democrats walk out on black pastor warning against gay marriage and abortion
Quote:Democratic Virginia lawmakers walked out on a conservative pastor who delivered a prayer warning against gay marriage and abortion in the state’s House chamber Tuesday.

The Rev. Robert M. Grant Jr. of the Father’s Way Church was invited to the Democratic-controlled state House chamber floor to deliver the opening prayer on Tuesday.

"Please do not provoke his anger and bring wrath upon this state by what you create as law," Grant said. "Biblical history is very clear. His wrath upon the earth is documented. We are not exempt."

Democrats in attendance weren’t keen on the black pastor’s message.
"Is this a prayer or a sermon?" one Democrat was heard shouting.

Grant urged lawmakers to ”stand for what is right” and spoke up for the unborn because they have "rights, and those rights need to be protected.”

"And why are there so many abortion clinics near African American communities? This is planned urban genocide, and you can change this," he said.

The pastor also told lawmakers that marriage should be between a biological male and female and not be used as a way “to provoke the almighty God.”

“It was totally disrespectful to all of us, all of us in this House,” Democratic Del. Luke Torian, who is also a pastor, told the Virginia Mercury.

Some Republicans also took issue with the pastor's prayer.

"I don't know if he was ill-instructed or didn't realize what he was here to do," Republican Del. Matt Fariss said. "This wasn't the place or the time to do all of that. … This is a time we need to be working together and not being divisive."

Grant defended his comments to reporters following the ceremony.

“I think that the statehouse belongs to all the citizens. And all the citizens have a voice,” Grant said. “If it’s my turn to have a voice, and I am a pastor, what do you expect from me? If you don’t want to hear what a pastor has to say, then don’t invite one.”

RE: Virginia Democrats walk out on black pastor warning against gay marriage and abortion
For a long time, white-liberals gave blacks a kind of dispensation to go their own way on issues like that, so long as they voted D.

The nomination of Clarence Thomas back in 1991 was one of the early-warning signs that the dispensation came with an expiration date, although we didn’t know back then when that date would be. I think we’ve finally reached it, though.
