Question RE: 2020 MLB Thread

(09-10-2020 05:21 PM)GoodOwl Wrote:  Meanwhile the Nats are starting to make their run, as predicted, and already up 2-0 early on Braves in 2nd. See, I told you, stever, they're not done yet, and our starting pitching is non-existent.

you were saying.... we're done.

you have no starting pitching. you're dead meat when you get to the playoffs.

rare good game tonight from both teams, Nats and Braves starters both went 7 quality innings. Braves just a smidgeon better tonight as winner Ian Anderson (our latest new No. 1 starter by default) has a great outing striking out 9 and besting Corbin, who also pitched well but was tough-luck loser.

I agree, our playoff run chances don't look too good as far as pitching. An off-night by the hitters and we're done- they've been making all the bad starts mostly irrelevant, but short series will likely do them in...unless...

The plan/hope is that recent former No.1 starter by default Max fried comes back of DL in time to help in postseason, and...wait for it..Cole Hamels 9remembr him) who was signed for just this season, but has been injured the whole time with multiple injuries, comes back this coming week and somehow gets right in a hurry and helps in playoffs. If that miracle scenario happens (and assuming tonight's starter Ian Anderson continues to do well) that would then give Braves 3 decent to very good starters and their playoff run chances improve a lot.

The offense is shredding it most nights, even with injuries riddling the lineup all (short) season; the bullpen is about as good as you could want it to be, Manager Snitker has kept an even keel and is balancing the juggling act about as good as one can..but he hasn't yet won a playoff series, so...we'll see.

As I've said before, this whole season is kinda a mulligan with so many exceptions, weird rules and extra teams, etc... but Braves might be around a bit longer than some think. Of course, that said, the Nats will come in tomorrow afternoon and blow us away, thus ending the season series tied at 5 games apiece. So,...who ya got in Le Tour? I kind of wished Alaphillipe could get the one he was robbed back from last year. Vive le Tour!

Question RE: 2020 MLB Thread
New Braves starter Ian Anderson is the second pitcher over the last 120 years to allow one hit or less in two starts of at least six innings in his first four appearances. The 22-year-old right-hander also allowed one hit against the Mets in his debut on Aug. 26.

He looked nasty. Wild but effectively wild. Was so glad to get him out of the game. Think Snitker made the right call to have him go 7.

Welp, didn't think Kyle Wright would get his first win over Max today, but 8-4 is the score. Braves are done...with the Nats this year. Vive le Offense!

The American League Division Series will take place at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif. and Dodger Stadium at Los Angeles, Calif. The National League Division Series will be held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas and Minute Maid Park in Houston. The higher AL seed will be in San Diego, while the higher NL seed will be in Arlington.

I'm surprised Texas was picked over FL. I mean since there are no fans the games could have been held in Orlando.

They're talking about having some fans for the LCS and WS. At least the Texas LCS and the WS.

it's just too short a season to award anything to these players for. Maybe rookie of the half-year, but not Cy Young.

Question RE: 2020 MLB Thread
Cole Hamels gives up 3 in his veeeeery late season debut to orioles in 3.1 innings, striking out 2, walking 1. Not terrible, considering, but not too great. Braves bats mostly silent tonight and Braves lose 1-5. Kind of like all they need is one or two games like this in playoffs and they're out. We'll see...stay tuned.

Question RE: 2020 MLB Thread
He leads the National League in average (.352) and RBIs (46). He’s tied for first in doubles (18) and second in hits (63). He’s second in runs (43), on-base percentage (.465) and slugging percentage (.648). He’s fourth in walks (36). His team has led its division most of this short season (44 of 56 days since the season began.) He's Freddie Freeman, candidate for MVP.

Question RE: 2020 MLB Thread
Braves bats back tonight in NY at CitiField vs Metz. Braves lead 14-2 in the 7th, but they have struck out 10 times so far, so there's that.
Braves starter Max fried went only 5 innings, 3Ks and 2BBs.
Matz of the Metz gave up 6 in only 2.2 innings, as did Kilome, who followed him.

Verlander needs TJ surgery.

The next 300 game winner may be a long time off. If ever again.

Most likely, the Texas stadiums were chosen because they have retractable roofs, eliminating the possibility of weather delays.

Question RE: 2020 MLB Thread
Braves' starter Ian Anderson finally lost his first game tonight against the Metz. Shane Greene didn't help the cause giving up 4 runs. With Miami beating Washington Baseball Team tonight, the Marlins crawl within 2.5 of the division lead.

Current standings for the NL playoffs...

38-16 Los Angeles
32-22 Atlanta
32-22 Chicago
34-20 San Diego
28-26 Miami
26-25 St. Louis
28-27 Cincinnati
27-27 Philadelphia
----------------------
26-27 Milwaukee
26-27 San Francisco
24-29 Colorado
24-30 New York
21-32 Washington
20-34 Arizona
15-39 Shittsburgh

I wish my Redlegs hadn't gotten off to such a crud start because I'm sweatin' bullets right now. That said, there is no time like the present to playing your best baseball and they've won 4 of 5, 8 of 10 and 13 of 20. This season is coming down to the wire gents.
