Lead down to 2 games
We have a 2 game lead on the Georgia schools. We really don't want to go into our season finale at GaSt only up one game, since a loss would give them the one seed and the automatic NIT bid. We really need to beat UTA on Saturday. GaSt still has to play at Texas State which will obviously be a very tough game and play GaSou in Atlanta (always a battle no matter where it's played). So while we want to keep winning, we have a chance to get some help as well.

Both Georgia schools have to play Texas State, but they get them in Georgia.

Like you, I do see where they play as significant. I would definitely favor Texas State playing at home. If it was in Atlanta, I'd give GaSt the edge. But, as we all know, anything can happen.

We have won 5 away conference games already (if I wasn't cross-eyed). No reason to think that we can't pick up a couple more. If we do, and if we hold serve at home, we are in the NIT (at least).

I'd really like the automatic NIT bid. Last night reminded me how easy it is to have an "off" game and be eliminated from a conference tournament. NIT bid is reflective of the entire conference season, which to me is really more meaningful than a one and done tournament. However, I have to admit that this year's tournament format gives the conference champ about as good an advantage as your going to get in a tournament format (other than playing it at the home of the regular season champ).

RE: Lead down to 2 games
I used to argue that the NCAA bids ought to go to the season champs - and I still think that is the fairest way to do it. However, I do understand the need to preserve at least a trace of excitement in the programs of the bottom feeders until the end. The NCAA went a long way toward fixing the problem by the automatic NIT bid. There is no national championship involved, true, but most of the also-rans would not be in the hunt for a national title, anyway. And this gives them the chance to play for something meaningful that they might have an outside shot at winning. An the slate of teams in the NIT is still pretty good.

Then the SBC went another step in the right direction by giving the #1 and #2 teams byes to the semis in the conference tournament. I am satisfied with the current arrangement.
