"I’ve been a Democrat for 20 years."
"Here’s what I experienced at Trump’s rally in New Hampshire."

A really good read.

"Normally when I publish content online, I focus on the world of work. I hope you’ll forgive this brief departure, but I think that those of us on the left need to take a long look in the mirror and have an honest conversation about what’s going on.
If you had told me 3 years ago that I would ever attend a Donald Trump rally, I would have laughed while assuring you that was never going to happen. Heck, if you had told me I would do it 3 months ago, I probably would have done the same thing. So, how did I find myself among 11,000+ Trump supporters in Manchester NH? Believe it or not, it all started with knitting.".

The rest here...

Read some of the comments too.

I've actually crossed paths with Karlyn a number of times through the years, as for a while, we ran in the same professional circles. Let me just say, she is a tried and true liberal, albeit one with an open mind. I was a little surprised when I first read the piece, knowing how liberal she is, but then I remembered that she was always an intellectually honest person who would be the exact type of person brave enough to write it.

some good quotes:

Quote:Some people say “well obviously they’re having a great time. They’re in a cult.” I don’t think that’s true. The reality is that many people I spoke to do disagree with Trump on things. They don’t always like his attitude. They wish he wouldn’t tweet so much. People who are in cults don’t question their leaders. The people I spoke with did, but the pros in their eyes far outweighed the cons. They don’t love him because they think he’s perfect. They love him despite his flaws because they believe he has their back.

Quote:With Trump, every single person was unified around a singular goal. With the Democrats, the audience booed over candidates they didn’t like and got in literal shouting matches with each other. With Trump, there was a genuinely optimistic view of the future. With the Democrats, it was doom and gloom. With Trump, there was a genuine feeling of pride of being an American. With the Democrats, they emphasized that the country was a racist place from top to bottom.

Quote:I’ve seen almost every Democratic candidate in person and almost universally their message is one of doom and gloom, focusing on not only on the obvious disagreements with Donald Trump but also making sure to emphasize that the country is a horribly racist place.

Now, I do believe there are very real issues when it comes to race that we as a society have yet to reckon with. I believe that everyone from every background of every gender should have equal access to opportunities and that no one is inherently more or less valuable or worthy than anyone else. And while Charlottesville was a tragedy precipitated by real racists and real nazis and real white supremacists, I started to see that those labels simply don’t apply to most people who support Trump.

good piece, good post. +3

It really is. There are probably many more like her than we'll ever know about given the MSM's propensity to only ever present one side of any story.

I would send it to my brother and sister.....

since it didnt come from CNN, ABC, NBC, or CBS, both would not believe it. We were in Ft Lauderdale driving up 1A1 when Trump announced he was running. Drove up to his gate and they took pictures. My sister in law who's married to a man who will not let a gay person treat him in the hospital and denounced his sister for dating a black man. She (and husband) loved it that Trump was running. I told my wife Trump would never win the republican nomination and never be president.

Skip forward a few months and things changes I let them tag along to S. Fla with my wife and I for a WKU fb game. Now that same sister in law hates Trump...both of her sons family are getting something from the system/government. She's afraid they will lose it if Trump wins.

First couple months my wife and listened to everything the MSM was saying about Trump. But then both of us started to notice what Trump said and what the media told everyone he said...didnt match up.

Then we sit down one night and went to Trumps contract (what ever it was called) and read his plan for America. My wife and I both come from a long line of democrats. I'm more of a centrist and vote across party lines than anyone in my family.

Long story short what we read from Trumps contract sounded more like a democrat when it came to jobs and lifting families up through higher wages than any democrat in our lifetime. Trump was running on a lot of the same things we agreed with on Clinton's first term. Dont agree with everything the man says but overall he was and still is the only choice running in 2016 and 2020.

Most of my family still believes everything the media tells them. As for my racist sister in law and her husband they are back on the Trump train...one son got a job at the corvette plant in BG Ky making $22 an hour when they opened up a second line in late 2017. The other got a job with my youngest son, started out, $26 an hour when Alcoa, opened another line early 2018.

For the record everyone in my family and my wife's family that's working (some are 62 took SS) are making at the very least $3 more an hour than in the start of 2017. I would say at least 4 or 5 out of 40 or so are off food stamps for the first time in 8 years. Most are working class so $3 extra an hour ($6 for wife/husband) is a lot of money to some.

It’s impossible to have a discussion on the topic.

I find that otherwise intelligent folks on the right can more often than not summarize why the left feels the way it does on an issue. You have to understand an opposing view to discuss it rationally.

However, otherwise intelligent folks on the left are often incredulous there is any other way to view the issue.

Makes for a waste of time.

Ties in with my "should the media fail" article. They are just unwilling to accept that there can be any other legitimate viewpoint. Everything is a "given."

Good read. It's really sad that this viewpoint never gets aired in the MSM. Nothing is black and white. Neither side has the high ground. But as a true independent, it's obvious to me that, while both sides are dug in, in general, the right can argue their points, and the left just hates everybody who disagrees with them, without rationality.

My sister and I are very close, and not spring chickens (70+). She is hard left. A true MSNBC believer. She knows I disagree with her politically, but sometimes she brings up subjects and wants to discuss it to "understand my viewpoint." But as soon as I say something she doesn't like, she either thinks it is untrue, or just shuts down the conversation.

Highly frustrating.

Politics has become a religion to many on the left.

I read her piece too and I thought it was great. But, at the end I saw that she still doesn't get it. She said that she voted for Booty Gig. Someone should tell her that his father was a genuine Marxist professor. You can't tell me that that ideology didn't rub off him. Booty Gig is a smooth talker like Oblunder and what did that man ever accomplish for our country. They say that Trump is a divider but I think the stage was set before Trump even announced his candidacy by Oblunder. They say that Trump hates Blacks and Browns and yet he received accolades from the Black community before he became president. What happened to all his awards now that he's president? Did he all of a sudden hate minorities. The things he has said during his term are exactly the same things Oblunder and many other Democrats said in previous years. Killery, her old man, Schemer, are good examples of favoring closed borders rhetoric. The videos are there, just look for them.

Hopefully, at the national election she wakes up.
