No, Rutgers is in the exact place for them.
Where else can you have a coach physically abuse his players and it is looked at as child's play compared to your new peers.
I have seen a lot worse at Ohio St, Penn State, Baylor, and Michigan St. The AD wanted to get rid of the BB coach in question and the president said no. When the crap hit the fan the president got rid of both to save his own hide and then brought the Louisville problem in only to have to dispose of her. The men's BB mess could have been nipped in the bud at the beginning when the abuse came out but the politics like the other universities took precedence first. Not right but Rutgers eventually straighten the situation out and has a lucrative future in front of it because the school had the foresight to invest in its self prior to the last major realignment cycle.
Rutgers athletics is a joke. One of the worst football programs in America. You play basketball in a high school gym. Your football stadium is usually empty and is already being criticized as outdated, inefficient and inaccessible. You consider Schiano your savior and his record as a college football coach is basically .500. When Rutgers was on Cincy's schedule during the Schiano years, the game was a predictable victory for UC essentially every year.

Wow so much butt hurt and hate. Kind of like Pelosi for Trump because he won. Oh well those B10 checks will pay for any improvements you have mentioned above. By the way Rutgers has a very nice 54k modern stadium to play in at this time and the RAC is rocking again with a team that was in the top 25 this season and has a chance at the NCAA Tournament this year. Also a .500 - 6 and 6 football team gets a decent paycheck as well as a hell of a lot more bowl money in the B10. Enjoy.

The point was more that it's silly to look at the Pac-12's status of whether they're P5 based on Michigan State prying Mel Tucker away from Colorado. But that said, the point remains that WVU had a coach hired away by Houston. And that Cincinnati hired Tubs away from Texas Tech. It smacks of sour grapes when it turns into "we were getting ready to fire him anyway" gets said.

I love it when fans brag about how much money their school makes to justify their athletic programs being trapped in a dumpster fire.

To answer the question, they shouldn't be. In men's basketball, the Big East has won more NCAA Tournament games (58) than the Pathetic 12 has (46). No doubt they're the 5th best of the P5 in football.

Yeah, the butt hurt from a sub standard athletic dept getting a golden ticket for little to no accomplishments.
Rutgers, which hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since 1991 and hasn't been ranked in the AP Poll since the 1978-79. Wow, they MAY make the tourny this year. Congrats.
Give 1/2 the AAC the advantage of B10 money and they would crush Rutgers in basketball and football...not unlike UC when they got the BCS title/ little bit of cash. No one has squandered more opportunity than Rutgers.

(02-13-2020 09:44 AM)Chappy Wrote: As the B1G and SEC continue to separate themselves from the ACC, B12 and PAC financially, there will be a power 2.
Agree. That's a very insightful point.
The ACC and PAC aren't strong enough in FB to match the earnings of the P2.
The B12 is strong in FB, but with only 10 teams, they can't match the viewership markets of the 14-team B1G and SEC.
The PAC may have a limited income ceiling vis a vis the B1G and SEC, due to having 12, rather than 14 teams.
-------------------
Observation #1:
To max out on media income per school, a conference must be strong in FB, as well as BB.
Observation #2:
Conferences with ≥14 FB & BB teams tend to have the greatest potential media income per school.
-------------------
Implications for the American Athletic Conference:
1. Maintaining and building the strength of AAC FB would be most likely to boost future AAC media income.
2. Replacing UConn FB with a stronger (top 60) FB school would be the most cost-effective (no cost) way to strengthen the conference's FB rankings.
3. Replacing UConn FB & BB with quality programs would increase the conference's post-UConn viewership market - - and future earning potential - - by 8% to 12%.
4. Increasing to 14 teams by 2034 (end of 12 year ESPN contract), adding quality FB & BB schools would assist to max out the conference's media income.

The bad news is this is possibly heading to a Big 2.
I believe it was Pat Forde who said the same thing.. with TV money, the Power 5 is quickly becoming a Power 2. It's bad when a coach who goes 1 year at 5-7 can make top 15 money, simply because the school/conference has more money than they know what to do with.
IMO this is a scary, scary era in college football and tides could shift dramatically. 6 months ago I thought it was a stupid realignment proposal, but it's looking more like the top schools (top 20-25) could easily take their ball and play elsewhere, leaving the other 100 to do their own thing. We have 30 or so schools making $60m a year from EPSN/Fox (about 7 or 8 of them are deserving of that money), another 30 or so making $40m a year most who don't deserve it, and there's us peasants making $6-8m. The divide is only going to get wider.
I said the same thing on the realignment board. Only about 24 or so p5 teams deserve the money they get. The rest are just riding the coattails of those teams.

Rutgers fans shouldn't brag about the money your scholl receive. UCONN in it's current state would have been a better add to the B10. You suck in football and basketball. Rutgers would be every AAC's team homecoming in both sports even with the money advantage.

Conversely you can save the same thing about basketball but the money is spread around among 30+ conferences

This adds to what I've been saying, that Aresco needs to make a deal with the Pac-12 to push for a playoff expansion that would include the top 6 conferences. It wouldn't close the money gap but it would help with the prestige gap.

The answer is “ no “, the pacific 12 is an “ autonomous “ conference that is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a p conference
Autonomous conferences means you’ve got to have a membership card to get in side

YES! The seeding for the 6 conf champs can be done off your conferences total OOC record, fairly easy SoS measurement. Since that'd be the seeding you'd need to establish OOC scheduling standards.
