Because it was a block and not a charge.

I went back and checked the video and blew it up and watched it over and over.

Lester may have had his feet set but his upper body was moving sideways and the contact was to his shoulder. And not in the middle of his chest. He was not in a guarding position because his upper body was moving sideways.

So it was correctly called a block. The ref was in the right position to see Lester's body moving sideways as the offensive player was trying to split defenders.
It was charge all day. The ref was literally getting ready to call a charge and realized it was Cumberland and then changed to a block.

Also you can still be moving on charge call as long as the defender beats the offensive player to the spot and his feet are set. Lester beat Cumberland to the spot and his feet were set and shoulder squared . Learn the rules before you try to comment on a rule.

It's a charge all day if Cumberland doesn't have 4 fouls on him already. It's a charge all day if it's any other player but Cumberland.

THIS

100% CORRECT! The rule is simple, the defender must establish legal guarding position and have both feet set (Lester did). Things change from this point, the defender can actually shift his body, raise his arms, etc. and can actually jump parallel as long as he has established his spot on the floor previously. The only thing the defender can not do is slide under an airborne player.

In the instance stated above, no doubt, Lester was in the correct defenders mode and a charge should have been called on Cumberland. Not saying this sole play cost the Tigers the game, just clarifying the call.

Check out the NCAA handbook in Section 17, pretty simple rule if carried out correctly. Every NCAA official is incumbent on reading up on all rules prior to each season, apparently there is no test to ensure this, however.

For those of you that’s listening to analysts, like last nights crew for instance, they have no idea on proper rules, just guessing like most fans.

No most are just willing to understand how things really work in life and are willing to give someone more than a year and a half with a team full of freshman. He may or may not work out, done a lot of great things so far and also has some things to learn. Just do not understand knowing he sucks and he needs to go already because he said one thing and another happened due to some bad circumstances out of his control. My kids used to throw fits too when they were little when things didn't go their way, luckily for me they grew out of it, doesn't seem to be the case here yet. You sound like someone who never played sports.

They didn't cost us the game, our inability to close out did. There were a number of things to point to that we did wrong, again. The one thing we didn't do was quit. This team has more heart than skill and I guess that counts for something.

We started 13-17 from the line and finished 20-32; so 7-15 with 3 missed front ends, so obviously that's no good.

They called 10 fouls on us from the time we got the lead with a little over 11 minutes left to a little over a minute into overtime, so 10 fouls in a 12 and a half minute span.

We had loser fans asking why Dandridge didn't hold onto the ball. He didn't hold onto it because he got body checked and the refs didn't call a foul. No foul on the charge on Cumberland, no foul on any of our drives, all of which had much more contact than the 5th foul on Precious. No foul when Precious went up for the rebound on the last drive.

By any measure known to man, we got ******.

We definitely did down the stretch but we had chances to extend our lead when we were up by 9 and didn't. And that no call on Dandridge was bad but him throwing the ball away like he did was worse. If we could ever play a whole game like we did when we went up by 9 we'd be OK. I have hope for the AAC tourney after tonight though. Oh well, on to UConn and GTG!

You preferred for him to hold onto the ball as he was being body checked out of bounds?

I preferred him not throwing the ball 15 feet past his guy. I would have much preferred that the damn ref hadn't swallowed his whistle when Dandridge was clearly knocked out of bounds if you want to down that rabbit hole.

Auburn - lost their 2 or 3 best players from last season, still rolling
Kentucky - Cal doing what Cal does
Dayton - winning w/ Anthony Grant 03-lmfao as coach
Villanova - plays mostly FR and SOPH
Duke- starts 4 FR
LSU- Mays is a SR and the rest of their rotation is basically FR & SOPH
Houston - lost their top 3 players, playing lots of FR & SOPH
Texas Tech- rebuilt their entire roster

There's 8 right there.

You're on to something. When you lose, you try to find excuses and not own up to the loss.
Think about our football season, we didn't lose a bunch of guys to injuries but the guys that we lost was high.
We lost Patrick Taylor for 9-10 games, that's our starting running back.
We lost our punt returner in Pop Williams for 10 games.
We didn't have Chris Claybrooks for 7 games.
We lost Austin Hall for a game.
Didn't have TJ Carter for 55 minutes of the Cincinnati (Black Friday game), the AAC championship game, and the Cotton Bowl.
Speaking of the Cotton Bowl, we didn't have Joey Magnifico.
Sanchez Blake (our leading tackler at that time) missed a month.
Cole Mashburn (who saw playing time in the first two games) was out for the remainder of the season.
Our backup tight end (Sean Dykes) missed 10 games.
Our football team lost significant players due to injury, but we didn't care because our football team kept winning.

You are really equating lose a player among 24 players to losing one of 5 players .

Am I equating two different sports? Yes, but despite the football team dealing with injuries, they still won football games. I understand you comparing 24 (or 22) players to 5, I get that. But the opponent also has the same amount of basketball players as what Memphis has. Despite being bang up, no one mentioned how injured the football was, because they won. Since this basketball team is losing, we're using injuries as a scape goat.

Thanks for the logical post. It’s very needed around here. It’s really simple - next man up, go win games. We’re not competing against Duke, Kansas, etc in this league. We are losing to the likes of SMU, USF, and Tulsa. These are teams we used to walk all over and now lose to a regular basis

very different situations as Penny is able to effectively 'talk the talk' with Memphis fans. He doesn't 'golly gosh heck darn' his way through interviews and he hasn't had any mass exodus yet like Pastner had towards the end. Combine that with the fact he's not just a Tiger but an NBA star and he'll get plenty of time to right the ship. Key will be to keep everyone sans PA and IM and add Jalen Green...avoid allowing your roster to be a revolving door. JMHO.

We are the youngest team in the country missing our number 1 and 3 players for a good deal of the season.

Tell me one other team that could lose their entire starting lineup the previous year then turn around and lose their 1 and 3 player this year and be successful...They don't exist.

Take the 1 and 3 players off of any of the top 25 and tell me how they fare. Everyone one of them would fall off greatly.

Who are these so called high level teams that we look nothing like, I guarantee you they aren't made up of all freshman and all of them have bad losses somewhere. Your so mad that we had the number #1 class because it's in almost every post, but we don't still have the number #1 class playing but somehow that shouldnt matter, win anyway. You hear that HOF Roy Williams you should win even when Cole Anthony was hurt, not be 10-12.

We do a lot of dumb things for sure that cost us games but some of these guys are starting to figure this out and if, big if,Penny can keep them together and keep adding pieces we will have a solid program going forward. SMH

Auburn - lost their 2 or 3 best players from last season, still rolling
Kentucky - Cal doing what Cal does
Dayton - winning w/ Anthony Grant 03-lmfao as coach
Villanova - plays mostly FR and SOPH
Duke- starts 4 FR
LSU- Mays is a SR and the rest of their rotation is basically FR & SOPH
Houston - lost their top 3 players, playing lots of FR & SOPH
Texas Tech- rebuilt their entire roster

There's 8 right there.

LSU 18-7 with their best player being a senior.
Dayton? - Not sure how that is relevant
Kentucky has 7 top 25 guys on their roster (3 of them sophomores and 1 Junior)
Auburn...3 out of 4 of their top scorers are Seniors
Houston...1 Freshman in their top 5 of scoring
Texas Tech 16-9

I think it is clear you didn't do any research or you are just twisting things to tell your narrative.

While I do feel a more experienced coach would have a few more wins...This team as it is constructed does not have the combination of talent and experience to be a high level team...But it should be a tourney team.

Maybe they got the word to elevate Cinci so two AAC teams get in tourney. A one bid league does not fit with the Power 6 narrative.

We are the youngest team in the country missing our number 1 and 3 players for a good deal of the season.

Since we want to do analogies...If the football team lost its #1 and #3 players (White and Coxie) how do you think they would have fared (Probably would have ended up in the Toilet bowl)...And they were far from the youngest team in the country.

This team has many issues but saying injuries and the Wiseman defection wasn't a major factor in this season is just being biased.

I understand that, too. However, if Penny is making Memphis basketball as a "one and done" school, which I believe he is going there with Wiseman going to the draft regardless of his situation, Achiuwa more likely will go to, and someone else would've gone if they had a great season, I don't want to hear excuses for our youth. We're going to be young every season because we can't keep guys in school for four years. In the future, the "freshman" excuse will be old.
