The guy is essentialy correct; they are mining photos that you/me/we are uploading to the public domain for public consumption.

Too late if you've already done it. Even deleted FB posts and content on FB pages and deleted snapchat photos among other social media have been captured for all time.

Of course it's been in use, but it's only a matter of time before it gets even more widespread use and more sophisticated. Much like Deep Fakes + Adobe VoCo, it's a scary thing with bad implications down the line.
