RE: WBB Game: Rice (16-6, 11-0) vs ODU (20-3, 10-1) aka 1 vs 2, winner take all
The end of that game overlapped with the start of the mens game and I never thought to switch until the womens game was over. I can't imagine that I would ever think that would happen.
Regardless, what a great game and win. Plus 1st place is awesome too.

Can you not keep your hatred for JJ to threads that are about MBB (or even better to the one dedicated to firing JJ)?
The women played great last night (as they have for most of the season), so why not PRETEND that you watched the game and compliment them.
It’s really not that hard.

I think if they earn (at worst) a split with Rice they have a very good chance of an at large.
Atmosphere was really good for a Thursday game and I hope people keep coming out to support! These women definitely deserve it!

I really wanted to be there. Too bad the conference doesn't keep the women's tournament at on campus sites, I would love to plan a weekend around that.

Same here. I haven’t enjoyed a women’s game like that in years.

For a multitude of reasons, my attendance at women's games has been spotty in the last few years. I keep renewing my tickets though. I managed to make it last night. I'm really glad I did. My voice is not. It felt like an old school women's game. The 2,732 attendance figure sounds off, it felt and sounded bigger than that. I really hope we can keep Nikki. If we can she could do something really special here.

I wouldn’t even be against a centrally located spot (maybe ATL). Hard to get to Dallas

Heard the band has to take the bus to Dallas, that is one long ride.

My point was an astute one, a new coach has breathed life into a program on total life support in just 2 short years.

It's her third year, but she has done great. I think it's going to be tough to hang on to her, if we make the NCAAs. We just don't have any money to counter. So with this, we rebuild 3 years with a good coach go to the NCAAs. Then lose the coach. Hopefully keep the team together. Then get lucky with another good coach, which is 50/50. Rebuild 3 years and make the NCAAs. So one NCAA in six years. That may be our fate, hope it isn't and we can keep her.

Honestly I think it'll be damn hard to keep the team together. I'd follow her lol

I guess I am one who has followed and enjoyed Coach Mccray's career as a basketball player and now as ODU's WBB coach. I've always regarded her as being extremely competitive and I really believe, call it naivety, she won't leave until she's fully convinced that her work at ODU is mostly done. I think she values commitments to a higher degree, and if I had to guess, I'd say her commitment to herself and ODU as a whole is to help turn the WBB program around. If you haven't noticed, pay a little attention to her when she talks about ODU and its storied WBB program. Its exciting to see Monarch nation slowly coming around. We love her and hope she continues to find satisfaction here at ODU for the next few years!

As far as I can tell (I'm not bored enough to go through your posting history), you don't post about women's basketball, and the one time you do (after the program's biggest win in years), it's as a passive-aggressive dig at your favorite windmill.
Whatever astuteness your point has is more than counteracted by a) your co-opting another team's big moment to promote it, and b) the fact that you've beaten that point into the ground so long and so hard it's popped up in the Indian Ocean.
If you want to define yourself as the Anti-JJ Crusader, so be it, but any impact it has has been rendered ineffective by the principle of diminishing returns. At some point it just fades into background noise. But who the hell am I to tell a grown-ass man how to spend his time, right?

ODU women's basketball has something that no other program in the AD except for field hockey can claim, and that's a tradition of top-level performance. It's been 35 years since their last national title and 21 since their last title-game appearance, but the ODU brand has a cache in women's basketball, and even after all this time, that says something. This isn't a case of a 50s-era powerhouse getting hopelessly overwhelmed by programs with far better resources and facilities; ODU still has above-average attendance year after year despite a decade of less-than-stellar performance, and I suspect it won't take more than a year or two of this level of results before the fans come back.
Put more bluntly: The ODU women have a far greater chance of being Gonzaga (as in Gonzaga's women's program, which is very good in its own right), than the men do.
That doesn't mean that McCray won't leave for a P5 program, but I think there's a better chance of keeping her and a better chance of convincing her that ODU can be a program in the conversation every year — not a national title contender, but one that can make the NCAAs regularly and have occasional runs into the second weekend, which quite frankly is a great goal for any non-P5 basketball program.
