Good stuff but it's a damn shame he feels that these kids have to be treated with kid gloves. I get that if you push them too hard they may shut down but the expectation should have been set at the outset that I am not going to baby you guys. you mess up I'm going to let you know. You don't perform to your potential that's on you and you will be held accountable. Maybe I'm just out of touch with the snowflake mentality of this generation, I don't know.

Punishing a person like a baby is to treat that person like a baby.

Sounds like you want to duplicate what didn't even work for your generation.

Yep. These young kids all seem entitled. They have no respect. Not just athletes. All the younger generation.

Who said anything about punishing them? Are you opposed to personal responsibility and being held accountable? Those two guiding principles I learned from my parents through discipline and tough love have served me well. It also helped me abandoned that silly youthful idealism we all have as young adults and replace it with a more balanced and pragmatic approach to my life.

I didn't realize you were part of their generation, wait, aren't you part of my generation?

Right, this isn't really a knock on the team so much as an observation of a dynamic I see in many of the kids these days.

Edit, I just noticed I accidentally hit the "i" key rather than the "u" key when typing shut. BAHAHAHAHA. Couldn't figure out why shut was showing up as ****.

Interesting conversation. Tubby was EVISCERATED by this board for suggesting the word "discipline".

I'm with the old-schoolers (probably because I'm 49). It's tough for teachers/coaches/leaders of young people nowadays. And, it has to be compounded 10x's over when dealing with 4-5 star athletes that have been worshiped since their formative years, based solely on their ability to throw a ball or jump high.

I understand the issue...

You want the talent...But the talent has been coddled for so long they are spoiled.

You can evaluate lesser talented players who are more mentally strong...But then you have a less talented team.

I know what you mean. I’m 57 and if it wasn’t for the discipline from my youth who knows what might of come of me. Can’t really blame the kids, it’s society as a whole. Thinks you can’t put a belt to a kids azz. Hell, if I got a spanking at school or by one of our neighbors, I got another one when I got home. And yes, our neighbors could discipline us too.

Kids these days are smarter than kids in the ‘olden’ days. They understand and are exposed to way more than we were growing up. There is no keeping them safe from the world. We teach them by example and by our own approach to life issues.

Now chew on that awhile and see where it takes you.

No.. Tubby did not suggest the word "discipline". His word was "obedience". There is a difference.

They have more knowledge, maybe.

Like I said, I'm old and old-fashioned. In my book, obedience is not a bad word.
