John Martin is a dog-faced pony soldier
I'm not sure what that means, but Biden used it as an insult on some dude, so it has to be legit.

Martin says in his latest column something along the lines of "All coaches deal with adversity. The good ones overcome it." It's a nice closer, right? I mean it sounds true enough. And applicable to this season of adversity.

But how about some facts to support that in the context of this season, John? Give us your list of coaches overcoming adversity. As GP has tweeted, tell me another team that lost 2 of their top 3 guys and succeeded.

Here are some I thought of, and did the research on:
2020 UNC, with HOFer Roy Williams. 6-3 before Anthony's injury. 4-7 without him.
2019 Duke, with HOFer Mike K. 23-2 before Zion's injury. 3-3 without him.
2019 Kansas, with HOFer Bill Self. 12-0 before Azubuike's injury. 17-10 without him.
2013 Kentucky, with HOFer Cal. 17-6 before Noel's injury. 4-6 after.
and an old one from memory...
2000 Cincinnati, with HOF candidate Bob Huggins. 28-2 before Kenyon Martin's injury. 1-2 without him.

And these are guys losing just ONE of their top guys (exception, Kansas last year who later lost Vick also).

USF loss was bad. Looks bad, feels bad, hurts the resume badly. But context matters. This has been the craziest season with Wiseman, NCAA, DJ, Lester, Malcolm, and now Precious. We fans should be careful not to project our disappointment in the wrong direction.

One other thing. Martin has certainly soured as the season has gone. Before the season, he was too hyped in the positive direction. Now he's flipped and is too negative. It is a bit alarming, considering he is somewhat tight with Mike Miller. Causes concern that the rumors about Miller could have some legs.

Yep. I will give credit that he is somewhat entertaining, but he is the definition of a d-bag tool. Even though I find him somewhat entertaining, I do not and will not listen to his show. He ruined that with his constant verbal bullying.

Biden probably remembers that line from what was said in the original director's cut. After all, he was there when it was filmed, at the spry young age of 65.

Geez, I shoulda known better than to insert any political figure's name into a thread in today's climate.

The thread was not political or about Biden - other than that's a comical "insult".

This is really about the asinine point many are making here and Martin seems to be championing. That the USF game or the season overall is an indictment of Penny's coaching ability.

I left out another good example in Steve Kerr and the GS Warriors.

The same John Martin who celebrated Penny's hiring by posting a video of him unboxing a pair of Penny shoes?

Have you ever met Miller? He’s no James Dean.

John Martin is like every other kid who doesn't have things go their way, they throw little fits. Last year when he was interviewing every family member this recruiting class had he was like a giddy little kid on Christmas and now that things have have happened and it isn't going his way, it's time to make snide comments and throw jabs like Vernon does. Memphis media, minus a couple, is very high schoolish

I just hate their interviewing style...they bring on "experts" to only to interrupt them and cut them off. They rarely let them finish a thought or ask question to gain insight from the guest. Their questions only validate their viewpoint.

Yes! And it permeates into the fanbase.

Or, maybe vice versa. Maybe the bosses hire media personalities that the people relate to.

You have flamethrowers everywhere, but I never see posts on here about a local media figure dousing another one's flames, it seems that they add fuel or at least roast their own marshmallows in the fire.
