RE: Marion Gone
Marion has been at 10 programs in 11 years including three high school programs and 8 college programs. It does appear that he has been moving up, but there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason. Coaching is nomadic, but aside from the three years with London (Howard/Tribe) there's no continuity. Seems like he's backed off trying to be an OC at least for now. I'm not sure I understand all of it either.

Rather than Malzahn this season, I'd keep my eyes on what happens in Tallahassee. FSU coach Mike Norvell is a close coaching friend of Marion and comes from that same Malzahn tree. After a very good tenure in Memphis, Norvell had an abysmal 1st season at FSU and is probably on a short leash to produce. I could see Norvell let go and Marion sliding in as his OC at whichever program he next lands at. I'm assuming he'd get another shot at a lower tier P5, as he has shown to be a decent coach.

Can’t blame someone for wanting to move up. Marion’s offense has changed the game, and is even used in the NFL. He deserves every opportunity he’s getting.

This is what I don't get. "His" offense? Changed the game? C'mon. I saw the tricks and gadget plays, he wrote the book or whatever, and he has made great effort to celebrate himself but if he was so great, he wouldn't bounce from team to team every year. Some team would've acknowledged his greatness and offered him a P5 OC job. Brady blew by every goal Marion ever had in half the time because really smart football minds acknowledged his greatness.

He's like the Huge of assistant coaches. Like I stated, I'm glad he's gone and I'm thrilled to have Coach Taylor.

Everyone has different ways of moving up, no? We were one of the worst offense’s in the FCS the two years before Marion was here. Marion transformed the same recruits Laycock had and turned the offense into one of the better rushing offense’s in the FCS, and i guarantee they would’ve been top 5 this season, had Marion stayed. Acting like Marion is some cancer because he has bigger dreams than FCS William & Mary is just disrespectful.

I’m happy to have Taylor as well and he might develop Mathis better as a passer than Marion would’ve, but don’t get me wrong, but Marion was no pushover.

Marion was a good OC. Thanks for what you did and the fine athletes you recruited in. Like many of you have said, I think we will be very good with Taylor at the helm of this offense. The players seem excited with the system too.

BINGO! He was barely here for a year with negligible impact, then he left for another program. Why are we still talking about him?

Why do people take opinions so personally? It's okay, we disagree on the level of Marion's brilliance. Rushing went up, in large part, because of our very capable rushing TFr QB, seasoned OL, and a stud TFr RB. Talk about disrespect...ask some folks about how Marion left W&M. Then tell me about disrespect.

RE: Marion Gone
I liked Marion's ideas in terms of run, run, throw deep, keep the defenses off guard. Reminds me offenses from the NFL when the pass became more popular in the 70s and the defenses hadn't caught up. There were many times when our receivers where wide open 40 yards down field. The offense made Zach Burdick look like Bob Hayes. The problem was that the plays took forever to unfold and that's why QBs needed to be mobile, and even with that we took a lot of stupid and long sacks. Good backs with a stretch play and cut backs against a defense moving laterally are going to spring big plays until the defense figures it out. Other than watching Howard film, there was nothing to go by. Gimicky is the word that I'd use. .....and thank goodness we had a chance to find some tight ends for this year after he essentially eliminated the position.

I do have a lot of confidence in London running a clean program and his assistant coaches seem to work well with the players. I'm excited to see how the new OC takes things forward. I expect us to be very good as a program this fall.

Probably because we have no sports currently playing right now. Hopefully, within a few days we will have some basketball, and then some football to follow. When does baseball have their first game?

Pitt's OC Whipple resigned last night to take the same position with Nebraska. Speculation is that our old friend Brennan Marion is the front runner to move from WR coach to OC.

Well, he's originally from the Pittsburgh area, so he probably sticks around if they want him. If he isn't the OC, an outsider might want their own guys. I think it wise to keep him around. If Pitt doesn't work out Maybe he winds up at UConn with Barthel & Sammis

Pitt named Tim Salem (TE Coach) as the Interim OC this afternoon, not Marion. My daughter is a freshman at Pitt and we are heading to the Peach Bowl this week, so been following it closely.

Tragic news. What a blow to his ego.

Pitt WR coach Brennan Marion has told his players that he’s accepted a job at Texas to become WRs coach/Pass Game Coordinator.

Don’t get the job you want and leave. I bet he tells his players to compete. Has he been with any program for more than a year?

Update: Yes, Howard for two seasons. He was with 11 different programs since 2011.
