What else is there in Muncie?

That’s what our home attendance should regularly look like. How is it we can increase attendance for that one game( cram the convo) but not others. Whatever we do for that game do for others.

True for the "What's there to do in Muncie", but what is there to do in DeKalb. DeKalb and Muncie are really like identical twins. I think it all comes down to culture. Going to be a basketball game at Ball State is engrained into culture much like going to church. NIU could do the right things for 2 or 3 years straight and still only see minimal uptick due to the deep cultural apathy. It will take a solid 2 to 4 year of fan outreach and doing things the right way to bring people back. NIU has neglected its basketball program for about 20 years now, and changes wont come overnight. It would be like eating bad for 20 years and weighing 400 pounds, it takes time to chisel away at it. What sucks, is there is no sign anytime soon NIU will be willing to do the right things to begin process. We have ADs over past 2 decades that have very short-sighted views and are not willing to invest the time or effort to build a program. They think in 2 year time scales not decade to two decade time scales. Their time scales are dictated by their next gig, not the benefit of the university and athletic program. I got a call last week from the Ball State athletic department asking me about the Ball State basketball experience because I went to the game there last year. Does NIU do this, do they call out to people who attended games and ask for feedback?

There were really 4500 people in Muncie? Camera shots did NOT look like that.

Ha! They don't even call when a game has been moved or the start time changed.

I went to an NIU vs. UIC game at UIC once, and I got calls and e-mails from UIC asking about my experience and buying future tickets. That's how you do it, folks.

No. They counted the band, security guards and EMT's to get to that number and multiplied by 4. Just like they do at NIU!

"Team played extremely lackluster no sense of urgency"

>>What does this even mean?
...Why in the hell are people so quick to label poor play with things like "they don't want to win" or "they look lazy" or "totally unprepared!!!!"<<

Played crappily. Does that clear it up for ya? That is what people do the world over when their sport teams play crappily - complain.
NIU lost. NIU didn't win. There is ample room for criticism. 41.7% FT shooting? TV announcer said early on (after two NIU FT clankers) ya ain't gonna win this game if ya can't hit your friggin FTs (I'm paraphrasing). BS shot 70.4% FT. We lost by 4 points. BS is the better team because they are better free throw shooters!!!

41.7%!!! I didn't play college nor high school BB. But I did hit about 80% of my FTs 50 years ago. Maybe they moved the line back since then?

So what we can extrapolate from that attendance figure is BS has more season ticket holders that NIU!
My ticket is scanned when I enter. How hard is that to report actual attendance!!!

This short-sightedness could also come from job expectations laid upon them by the people who determine whether or not they keep their job.

Then why not say they aren't playing well...or crappily? Why lie? Why make up a reason for not succeeding which actually looks worse for the people involved? Of course people are going to complain. Why can't people be accurate about their complaints? It's like if the team plays well, the fans have a right to complain about anything they want, whether its true or not.

That's complete BS and is was leads to false narratives. If anyone has watched this team this year and has ever come to the conclusion that they don't play hard or lack inspiration, then that person is a moron. This team plays its guts out every single night. Problem is, they sometimes press or make bad decisions or rush plays. But all teams do that. They also aren't perfect and miss shots or go through cold stretches from time to time. Again, this happens to all teams. It doesn't mean they were uninspired or lackadaisical or anything like that. We don't have to be sensationalist and create crap that isn't there. And we definitely don't have to accept it from people who either have an agenda (trying any way to undermine the head coach or point out weaknesses) or simply aren't smart enough (or are actually paying attention) to what is actually happening.

This team just won 6 games in a row and played poorly for 20 minutes and its okay to question their commitment or focus when they are still playing well on one end of the court? They didn't even play that bad. Just bad on one end of the court. If nothing else, that should tell you they aren't uninspired or lackadaisical. Those things lead to getting killed on the defensive side and giving up a lot of points. None of that happened.

They had a rough half when their best player also had a rough half. It happens.

They're still 8-4, right? I'm actually disappointed that I will miss the next 2 home games. The last couple have been good games to watch (mostly). Both were wins, at least.

This is where historically NIU falls apart, does anyone else get that sense, the Ball State game was the start of an extended losing streak? I think if NIU goes to Oxford and gets a W, it will feel like a distinct different path is carved out this year. I fear if NIU drops the game @ Miami-OH, the snowball potential is going to get pretty large

I don't know, they do play better at home, even if the crowd is small.

The schedule is good for NIU, probably the easiest remaining schedule. The thing that scares me a little about it, is that every game is a potential loss. We have already used up our EMU, WMU, Miami home bullets. Would be nice to have one gimmee in the last 6 but these are all going to be toss up games and I could see NIU going into a tailspin. Two teams I believe which are going to be MUCH more dangerous than their seeding come tourney time is EMU and Ohio.

Talk about a tough game to decide who to root for Friday night, Akron @ CMU? I have no idea which way to lean, would you rather increase chances at least getting a 4 (Akron win), or dream big and try to move up to a 1 or 2 (CMU win)? I am thinking probably want CMU? I would like NIU to get off that 4 line, last thing I want to see is a 3rd matchup in the quarters between a #5 Kent and #4 NIU. Somehow I don't think NIU can pull a rabbit out of the hat a 3rd time vs Kent

BigRed, if I or any other fan can’t prove they played lackluster then you can’t prove they didn’t. They read there press clippings just made mid-major top 25, they just got into the 2-seed spot and proceeded to start the game lackadaisical. I don’t care what you think that’s my perception of what happened

I am 100% sure Montgomery felt they came out of the gate with a lackluster effort. I’m sure he saw a team settling for the easy shot not punching the ball down low, not defending hard and not concentrating at free-throw line.

Competion for fans is different..we are close to U of Wisconsin, Northwestern, DePaul, Loyola and various other colligate venues that it is almost impossible to compete wth these fan bases time and money...
