We took a loss, it happens, S Florida should have beat us the first time plus about 6-10 other teams. This team’s been on the brink of losing games like this all season.
It’s called basketball, get used to it. Take in the circumstances specifically and it’s understandable.
But meltdown mt.org, meltdown and keep throwing the logs on the fire...the a** showers will show their ass*s and it’ll help those with discernment to see whose for real.
I said we’d be lucky to go 5-5 over the.last ten games, and now we’ll be lucky to go 4-6.
No win is a given.
Just pray our guys heal up.

Sorry but all I could think of when reading that was a bidet. Good stuff though 04-cheers

He may get that hall pass from most Tiger fans, but no one around the country - media, fans of other schools, coaches battling him for recruits, those future recruits, and the selection committee- gives a flip. Bottom line in most people's eyes is he had the # 1 class and may not even make the NIT with it playing in a weak Mickey Mouse league. Its a horrible look.

You are absolutely right...Nationally everyone is going to give Memphis a hard time.

But I think Penny has a good story to tell to incoming recruits for the performance of the current roster with the loss of Wiseman and DJ along with injuries to Dandridge and Lester. If none of the above happens and we are in the same situation Penny would be screwed with recruits.

Everyone wants to jump up and down talking about the #1 recruiting class and comparing it to what UK and Duke have done with those classes. Let's ask ourselves one question...How many top 10 picks to we have on this team...Now compare that to those successful classes and UK and Duke and that should give you your answer about talent comparisons.

I get that but what can he do about it now, those same people have been dying for us to stay off the radar forever. There is a reality here and those that do not want to acknowledge it don't have to I guess. Roy Williams lost his best player for most of the year and they faceplanted, I guess he sucks too. Penny has a lot of work to do with recruits to make sure they understand what happened, it may not be possible to sway them again to come here who knows. SO I guess the alternative is just win anyway regardless of who suits up because you said you wanted all the smoke, so take less talented guys and win anyway, ok not sure it works that way.

Remove anyones best and third best player int he whole country and see what happens, take Trey Jones and Vernon Carey from Coach K, he will suddenly look less like the greatest coach of all time. Ignore the facts, makes sense to me

Context matters. No one is excusing this loss. And, yes, it has likely kept us out of an at large bid. But the way this went with the officiating and the thin roster, it was a bad setup. I hate it, but it is what...

Funny, I went to grab the Cyndi Lauper version of True Colors for some of you spineless weakling snowflakes who just want to whine and cry. Instead I found a version by our own JT. From the movie Trolls. How perfect.

Not unreasonable to expect to win...But you have people suggesting Penny will never succeed because of the expectations from the beginning of this season.

Those people are not even looking at the circumstances surrounding the loss. What is the recruiting class ranked without Wiseman, Dandridge and DJ?

Understanding that this team is without 3 out of its top 5 front court players from the start of the year AND the best frontcourt player is in foul trouble the entire game until he gets hurt...Then the other front court player goes down as well. Anyone who ignores those circumstances is not being fair.

Don’t know but we still have much better talent than USF without them.
Precious 5*
Lester 4*
Boogie 4*
Lance 4*
Does USF have even one 4* player on their roster?
Alo, Harris, Baugh were probably ranked as high or higher than their best recruit. No excuse for losing to them on our home court.

We did have more talent without a doubt...But all of our talent were freshmen.

The only talent that had the ability to dominate with just his physical gifts would have been Precious and he was hampered with fouls the entire game. Every other player you list needs more time.

I am sure UNC has more 4 and 5* than Georgia Tech...But 11-13 Georgia Tech won by 13 in Chapel Hill

Or

How about 9-15 Evansville winning by 3 against UK in lexington (ECU beat Evansville by 17)

None of this are excusable losses. Looking at the failure of others to justify your own is a losers mentality. I’m not into that. I get that bad losses happen, that is basketball. But that still doesn’t make the loss okay or excusable.

Yes Sir!

If Penny would have brought in the #20 recruiting class everyone would be fine right now.

So you don't think D.J., Dandridge and Precious most of the game had a little bearing on that game huh? They could easily lose the rest of the remaining games under that same scenario. Tigers lost a lot of rebounds in that game which probably had more to do with the loss than anything. Wonder Why?? Not just rebounding but playing defense. There was something mightY strange about the way that game was called. Precious makes three straight baskets then picks up two quick fouls and a moving screen early in the second half. RIGHT..! He gets creamed by a charging "Bull" and has to leave the game and NO FOUL CALL? RIGHT.

I don't think there was a charge call when Precious got hurt. It was an unfortunate incident at least from the replays they showed.

He was a terrible recruiter. Remember Memphis can’t get national big name recruits.
You can’t quote anything he says after that...anything because credibility was lost.

I’d rather have a great recruiter that sets high expectations and a higher bar for himself and this program who falls short due to f*d up circumstances than the former.
Coach Penny will learn from this and be better for it.

People that pull out Tubby’s name after a bad loss in an 18-6 season can go take a hike.

The problem is we have no good experienced juniors and seniors on this team because tubby didn’t recruit any. A normal team would have several 3-4 year players who could come in and help settle things down when the game starts getting out of control. And we only have any decent sophomores (Tyler and Alo) due to Penny being Penny and being able to get them late.

If we keep everybody around it’ll look a lot better next year.

Of course it did. But Precious was available and played. I do not give a coach a pass for an active player getting in foul trouble, that is on the player and the staff to adjust to.

I have stated several times that I agree that losing Malcolm and DJ were big losses but we still had a vastly superior team in terms of talent.
Precious 5*
Boogie 4*
Lester 4*
Lance 4*
Harris, Alo, and Baugh were likely ranked as high or higher than any player on their roster. Maurice would play significant minutes for USF. There is no scenario under which we did not have the better roster.

Jamal Johnson. 6 4 physically strong guard plays about 14 minutes a game off bench for Bruce Pearl at Auburn.
He's shooting over 45% from 3.

Age will do that for you...JJohnson has gotten better over time...

Rated 162 out of high school...Similar to Alo and is a year older.

People expecting Alo to be the lead guard on this team are expecting too much. Boogie is getting there...But he is looking for his own shot.

Penny needs to teach these kids to get into the lane and jump stop to find scoring opportunities. Right now our guys want to Eurostep or outrun guys to the rim.

Jump stop evaluate and find a cutter because if you are in the lane it is very likely the defense has collapsed.
