WBB @ BG Noon ESPN+
The 2 teams with the worst conference records to date NIU 2-7 BG 1-8 square of today at the Stroh Center at noon on ESPN+. If our Lady Huskies can play like they did against Buffalo and CMU then they should walk out with a win. They have been playing a little better lately so I’m predicting thats what happens. Go Huskies !!

RE: WBB @ BG Noon ESPN+
Well-put without being too negative. Then again, we may be slightly spoiled by the mbb team's recent success.

Realistically, there isn't much left to "play for" this season, but hopefully a few wins will give NIU a better seeding in the MAC Tournament. If the Huskies finish no lower than #8, we'll see a home game at the Convo in the MACT.

Some things to look for:
--- Courtney Woods is a known quantity, the third 2,000-plus scorer in wbb history. Always enjoyable to watch.
--- Some good things from Ally May, a senior who has been in and out of the lineup with minor (thankfully) injuries and the flu (?).
--- Continued improvement for the ones who will carry the load next season ... Grace Hunter, Chelby Koker, A'Jah Davis, Riley Blackwell, Gabby Nikitinaite, et al. If not the present, need to see some positives coming down the road.
--- Surprisingly -- at 5-4 -- Myia Starks' continuing rebounding skill. She's always 2-3 in total rebounds for a game. Quick, aggressive.
--- Finally, some indication from somebody out there that they could be someone special. Every year for a few, we've been almost spoiled by the likes of Ally Lehman, Mikayla Voigt and now Woods.

Huskies prevail in OT 92-87. Courtney with 32 Mya a good second half. Blackwell ties it with a corner 3 to send it into OT with 5 second in regulation.

Saw BGSU seemed to have a decent crowd, so checked their website ... 1,401 for this game. Thought, why such a big crowd, so checked earlier games. They draw 1,200-plus per game for wbb. NIU can't even average that for mbb.

Just a curious note, and ... wonder what kind of promotions their a.dept does.

Been to 3 games there and never saw any promotions. Always a decent crowd and good, knowledgeable friendly fans unlike Ball U and Miami fans. The university at BG embraces the community and the community supports wbb- why can't that be replicated in Dekalb?

RE: WBB @ BG Noon ESPN+
Glad to see Salmi get some time and points, but noticed a bandage on her hand. Woods scored 32, a season high for her. Overall, Huskies have played pretty well the last 3-4 games.

On the attendance, every program at NIU is a victim of poor promotions. Mbb had its best crowd of the season, but apparently that's because Hammock rousted out the fb team. Northern has long been a "suitcase school;" now with growth in commuter student enrollment, it's also becoming a transient school. Not going to change, so athletics needs to try harder. (yeah, like that's really going to happen.)

Since the MAC started sponsoring women’s basketball, BG has been one of, if not the most accomplished programs. During the Curt Miller years, it wasn’t uncommon for the women’s team to out-draw the men. I think the same can be said for UT. The BG community really sticks with Falcon women’s basketball and men’s hockey no matter the respective records, through thick and thin.

RE: WBB @ BG Noon ESPN+
So did NIU, back in the days of Jane Albright (up to the mid-1990s). In fact, NIU wbb once held the Illinois college wbb attendance record for a single game (over Uof, IllSt, DePaul, everyone). I was at a home game with standing room only, and the fire marshal closed the doors for safety reasons, with several hundred people still outside the fieldhouse (capacity about 6,000). Fortunately I had a ticket/seat.

Then Albright left. AD Carey Groth left. The Huskie Club got "institutionalized" and became the Huskie Athletic Association became today's HAF, and it got to be all about money and not people (i.e., the fans).

BG sounds like it never lost those people-to-people connections. Easy to lose, hard to get back, especially when nobody except a few die-hard fans seem interested.
