Yep, couldn't remember her name. Was a leftie.

Also, Lannah Campbell or Hannah Campell was a pitcher on the team.

The new on campus field is a million times better than where they have come from. Amazing that marla was able to do what she did with what the school gave her at that time.

UAB Softball has been playing in the present stadium since 2010, when Marla Townsend was coach. The two coaches between when Marla got canned for being loyal to UAB and the current coach never had to deal with the George Ward Park issues.

We’ve only had 3 coaches. Marla was with the program from its inception through 2017. Marla resigned before the 2018 season and her assistant, Amanda Ellis, was named interim head coach for the 2018 season. Despite a 2nd place CUSA finish in 2018, they decided to go a different direction. The current coach, Jimmy, was here last year and this year.

The current players were in elementary school when UAB softball was playing at George Ward. UAB went to the NCAA tournament the first 5 seasons at the current field, but have failed to do so since then. Not sure what happened, but I thought we would have gotten more momentum after going to the Super Regionals in 2013, but it felt like it was a steady decline until this weekend. Even though we’ve been at the same field since 2010, the seating was redone a couple of years ago, and it has to be one of the nicest stadiums in CUSA. The new clubhouse that they’re raising money for should really raise the bar.

Yep. Lannah Campbell was the UAB player. Her sister Hannah was the star pitcher at South Alabama. Between Streetman, Campbell, and Webster, I believe we had one of the best 3-pitcher rotations in the country. Webster was also a good hitter; when she pitched she also batted, so they would use the DH for another position.

And yes, the Mary Bower's Softball Field has been in place for a few years for Marla and whoever the others may have been.

Even so, if they could get it done with Streetman and others there's no reason why is shouldn't have been able to continue at a higher level.

This is why Koalitis' success this season is somewhat stunning so far.

He was at South Alabama when they were in the top 25 and we were making our deep postseason runs. Came from a World Series competing Oregon team too. That’s probably why we have same Cali girls on the squad, too.

Think we have 2 from AU, 1 from ole miss and miss state

Can’t remember the other ace we had when Streetman was here, but her sister was at South Alabama at the same time.

Yep. We have 2 from Auburn, 1 from Ole Miss, and 1 from Mississippi State. We have a pitcher from Chipola who won the junior college championship. We also have a pitcher, Conrad, that transferred from Oklahoma (had a 0.56 ERA in 2 seasons at Oklahoma). We also have a transfer, Reid, from South Alabama & Kansas originally. Both Reid and Conrad are having to sit this year out due to transfer rules.

I forgot to mention that the Oklahoma transfer can throw up to 68 mph! 04-jawdrop

For those that aren’t softball dads the key thing for deep runs is having a number one pitching ace. In softball, ladies can easily 3 games in two days. Ideally you’d have a solid #2 to reduce the number of innings of your ace and 2-3 pitchers you’re trying to develop. Pitching in softball is gold, more than baseball. Small ball is the norm, get on base anyway you can. Bunts and advance the runners. Big sticks are a luxury but deadly if you have them.

Sorry I forgot how much older im getting. Before and when I was at UAB I remember going to games and watching some friends play there and just had some bad flash backs. 03-drunk

I remembered she played a position during her off days from pitching, but I couldn’t remember which one.
