Your comment on the other thread reminded me. Did you see San Francisco intentionally foul BYU, up 2 at the end of their game a couple of weeks ago?

Jordan Sperber interviewed Todd Golden (USF Coach) on the Solving Basketball podcast, and Golden made no bones about being completely committed to using the analytics to make decisions like this. Thoughts?

YES! That was such a great move. Its Jason Greenfield, director of analytics. Unfortunately, most coaches are set in their ways and refuse to make the smart move. They are too headstrong.

It's like the old school coaches that won't foul up 3 with under 10 seconds no matter what. Scared of the criticism, IMO. Its one think I never expect Jeff Jones to embrace but it was refreshing of Wilder to understand and implement.

Was this advanced statistics or accounting for the human element (the injury) to make a subjective decision?

Isn't the move USF did the old hack-a-shaq? Surprised it doesn't happen to us more often with one of our own players

Generally you don't even hack Shaq when you're up 2 at the end of the game.

All of those. Sometimes find more in depth stuff on twitter. A lot of just googling.
