It is anchored by Fort Meyers, Port Charlotte and Naples
Florida Gulf Coast University is down there

The Tampa Bay are contains Tampa, St. Pete and Clearwater, and extends to Bradenton and Sarasota although Sarasota is a decent distance. It extends North and East as well but there are likely no towns most are familiar with

USF was indeed titled that as the southernmost state college at the time

We have never heard the region referred to as SW Florida but it is not a massive stretch simply looking at a map

Maybe they could change their name to the University of West Central Florida.

Could have been us.

But the geniuses in Nashville continue to live in 1950 and yearn for 1850.

Jarvis Cooper rushing 17 times for 78 yards while running over the Ole Miss defense when we whooped that a$$ in 2015, is a West Memphis kid.

When I worked for a branch of Textron, we had our product seminars at the beginning of December every year in Long Boat Key, outside of Sarasota. I loved it and I love Tampa. I've always had a lot more fun on the gulf side.

It's not uncommon to hear the Tampa area called SW Florida.

Hmm. Not a school in Hawaii?

USF established 1956.

Miami University established 1809.

What am I missing?

I believe Miami is a private school. He mentions "state school". That's my guess...

I enjoyed watching that dude truck opponents.
I also remember all the hand-wringing here when he and Jamarius Henderson transferred out. What was Norvell doing?!
Turns out, we had Darrell Henderson, PT, and Pollard ready to roll.

Maybe this was a joke

I doubt the University of Miami in Coral Gables opened in 1809
Plus it is a PRIVATE school, not a state of Florida public college

Miami University is likely the Ohio school

It wasn't a joke, but I was having a bit of fun with the exact wording of the statement. I sincerely didn't know when the school was founded. Since it was founded in 1956, and Hawaii wasn't a state until 1959, it very well may have been the southernmost state university (in the nation). It isn't now because Hawaii's state universities are the southernmost in the U.S.

I'll try harder to make sense on further attempts.
