On paper he was our most exciting hitting prospect before arriving on campus. Perfect Game had him ranked as the # 42 overall prospect in NC, and # 3 Third Baseman in the state.

His Exit Velocity was in the 94th percentile nationally.

PG had the following to say about him:

https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Play...?ID=426252

Quote:Ronald Evans II is a 2019 2B/3B/SS with a 6-2 202 lb. frame from Raleigh, NC who attends Leesville Road HS. Extra-large, broad shouldered build with lots of present strength proportioned throughout frame, strong lower half. Ran a 7.18 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, fields the ball out front and hands play well at the ball with softness, nice footwork with balance to actions, shorter arm action through the back, accuracy throws from multiple arm slots, strength will continue to develop moving forward. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide and slightly open stance, high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Upper body dominant swing but stays short to the ball and shows ability to create leverage through the zone. Incorporates physical strength well and can go to the opposite field, shows bat speed and strength off the barrel, can work gap-to-gap with comfort.

Never too late to start following Baseball more closely. We've got an exciting team this year loaded with talent, both of the veteran and freshmen variety. We're easily a top 40 program nationally, with 10 NCAA Tournament appearances since 2003, and only continue to get better.

It's just a matter of time before we reach a Super Regional.

I actually follow pretty close during the season, just don't keep up on the recruits and incoming players. I was in Greenville for almost every game and Chapel Hill the last two years for post season.

NC State was ranked # 10 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll today. The CBN also recognized 3B/OF Devonte Brown as a National Player-of-the-Week:

RF/3B Devonte Brown, N.C. State: Brown hit 3 homers and a double as he collected 8 RBI over four games last week.

State was ranked # 13 by D1Baseball and # 17 by Baseball America and Perfect Game this week. NCBWA's poll will come out later today.

USA Today likely won't release in-season polls until March.

Not real impressed with their opponents so far. JMU - 3 games Longwood - 1 game TnTech - 3 games. Let's see how they do against a quality opponent.

For sure, but they were ranked entering the season and are coming off a 40+ win season, so they had the pedigree to suggest they'd be very good this season.

You can only play the games on your schedule and they've outscored their opponents 63-15 so far. Meanwhile, JMU was picked to finish 3rd in the CAA and have won 4 straight coming off getting swept by NC State, so I wouldn't dismiss them.

But yes, we're the best team they've played so far for sure and should give them a strong test, if not win outright. I'll be curious to see whether we throw Blake Deatherage or Brody Lawson in this one (or perhaps a 3rd option).

Sharpe Named CAA Pitcher of the Week

2/25/2020 12:04:00 PM
Tom Riordan

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Red-shirt junior Zarion Sharpe was named Co-Pitcher of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association after a dominating start against Bowling Green at the Hughes Bros. Challenge.

Sharpe, who was making his second start of the young season, held Bowling Green hitless over seven shutout innings. He carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before issuing a one-out walk. Sharpe finished his outing with eight strikeouts as the Seahawks beat BGSU, 5-2.

Sharpe shared the award with James Madison righthander Justin Showalter, who one-hit Quinnipiac on Saturday.

Sharpe joins freshman Ron Evans as a CAA weekly honor recipient this season. Evans was the league's Rookie of the Week on Feb. 18.

Still 3-0, bottom 3rd.

Hawks at runners at the corners and 2 out in the top of the inning, but Baldwin grounded out early in the at-bat to end the threat.

State takes a 5-0 lead in the 5th. Starting to pull away.

We've gotten a few hits off them, including a nice double by Evans, but haven't been able to string them together. Just getting beaten by a better team right now.
