This is the story that I am watching to see how deadly the virus is. So far it sounds like 20 people infected with no deaths on this cruise ship. The ship is in Japan, not China, so hopefully truth will prevail and not secrets and shadows.

I would think the % of deaths due to the virus would be higher in China, considering they are an oppressed people that live in a Bernie Sanders'esque utopia. Between the malnutrition, government healthcare, and communist bureaucracy, these people don't stand a chance. They'll end up cremated in an incinerator and the government will report low #'s to hide it.

I'm being told by our pharmacists Coronavirus deaths are around 500 and maybe 25k have been infected.

Is the CDC number world wide or US? and is it a yearly number? There is a big difference in comparison. Regardless...China has a solid track record of giving out low numbers in situations like this. Why in the hell would anyone believe what they report? Id bet the numbers are considerably higher than they are reporting and our experts know it and are intentionally not disputing them as long as we can contain it here in order to decrease panic in the population.

Another breakdown in the comparison [Coronavirus vs. influenza] is that one has a vaccine that is readily available (at low-cost to no-cost) to just about any adult in the United States. No, it is not successful 100% of the time, but close to it.

It's effective if they pick the right strain to fight.

The other two breakdowns are the Coronovirus is 2 to 3 times more infectious than the flu and likely has a higher mortality rate as well.

Literally nothing good would come of taking a significant outbreak of a high kill virus lightly and keeping it to yourself, when you may not be equipped to handle the problem at a wider scale.

I agree. I think similar to the Chernobyl disaster, the government covering up what actually happened and downplaying the severity of the incident only served to make things much worse in the end.

My coworker's family lives in the same province as Wuhan and he told me their entire village is currently locked down. No one is allowed outside unless to travel to a specific store to get food and basic necessity. He was telling me today that the Chinese government values stability over everything, and in the early days of the outbreak, they were worried that if the full extent of the news got out that it would cripple the country.

Socialists and Communists tend to cover up the truth about lots of things...Bernie/Warren much?

Yep and that's the hardest part each year. There are so many different types that it's basically a crap shoot as to which one will work. I think they look to the southern hemisphere to see what strands were going around and then use that to help predict which ones will hit the US. It's obvious that doesn't always work.
