This is more so the point. Ideas get thrown out a lot around here. Question is, none of them (or virtually no good ones that are original either) are implemented by the university/athletic department so, what are the barriers? What is the push-back on ideas?

I assume the Fan Advisory Board makes suggestions, but what happens to those suggestions because as it looks right now, the Fan Advisory Board needs a house cleaning since the fan experience at both sporting events and non-sporting events is less than idea (and that may be putting it kindly).

So, what are the obstacles? If there are legitimate hurdles and make implementing things impossible, let us know what they are so, at the very least, we understand. This allows the fans to 1) temper expectations or 2) help finding ideas that are realistic or 3) help think of new ways to overcome the obstacles that seem to be in place.

I am offering an opportunity to PM me ideas to bring to the meeting.

I read this board way to often and agree with many of the concerns brought up here and have discussed some of those at the meetings and one on one with athletic administrators. Like any business some things happen and most things don’t but that doesn’t keep me from bringing up things again or from bringing different ideas to the table.

If my colleague on the board didn’t suggest Victor E Pub on many occasions it probably does not happen but it is also why it now exists along with the current end zone club at football games and moving the yard indoors for November games. It is also why changes have already been made to Victor E Pub. It also is why their are various partial season ticket packages available for football and basketball. It is why students can use their phone to secure friend and family tickets without having to make a trip to the box office.

I will ask again, PM me ideas and I will get them to the board and the decision makers.

RE: Fan Advisory Board
By the way there was criticism on this board and correctly so regarding the lack of communication regarding the basketball time changes last Saturday.

Partly as a result there is an effort being made this week to get the word out regarding the day and time change for men’s basketball this weekend from Saturday to Friday at 6pm for the national broadcast on CBS Sports. I have received e-mails from athletics and an individual in athletics. I also received a phone call the old fashion way on my home landline. And no I am not a six or even five figure donor. We can help by spreading the word on the change.

What are the qualifications for being accepted onto the Board? How many members are there? Is there a term or is it for life or until someone quits? How often do they add new members?

There are I believe 12 members plus seven or eight regular attendees from athletics representing the senior staff, marketing, revenue generation and ticketing. The members are a mixed group geographically, years involved with athletics and the university, interests such as primarily basketball or football, donor levels (no mega donors), age and careers. I applied on line just like others on this message board and was probably selected because I am a donor, season ticket holder and I also volunteer in the business department. However others were selected for different reasons such as referrals from others on the board or from people in the administration. There is a three year limit as a member and currently members are in their first through third years. Some members resigned after their first or second years.

RE: Fan Advisory Board
Here's a little but annoying thing. If you go t the signing day central page on the NIU Athletics site and click on the individual players to see their video it shows a 404 error code. Has been that way since the December signing period. couldn't someone with IT knowledge fix it. This administration seems to miss the small things that make the experience "World Class".

Having cheerleaders would be a step toward "World Class"

It would at least be a step toward "Division I".

Sounds like an exercise in idiocy. Read these boards 5 minutes for "ideas".

Nah, the board contains less ideas, and more complaints from people that really love to complain.

Most of the complaints are opportunities to improve the processes.

Sure, we can play with the words all we want. My overall point- telling someone that's volunteered for a board to help improve the experience "just go read the boards with all the complaints" instead of taking the time to message them with a well thought out opinion and recommendations is pretty piss poor. :)

And what about those who have e-mailed the administration well thought out ideas and recommendations as well as areas for improvement - only to have those ideas and recommendations ignored and not even acknowledged?

We do need to be considerate of those that have taken the time to be on the board. 04-cheers

So you are basically calling me an idiot. Thanks for the feedback. Hope it wasn’t to much trouble.

Victor E.Pub has been a great success but can you please have more than one person working it and have two credit card machines. Honestly all of the concession areas are so slow it’s ridiculous! We are begging for fans please give them a good experience and they likely will come again.

RE: Fan Advisory Board
This isn't that difficult of a problem to remedy. Can we have a thread that sticks at the top (ie, doesn't get pushed down) where ideas can be shared and discussed. I may have an idea but don't have a good solution in how to implement it, but if I bring it up in a dedicated thread, a thread that everyone knows has an intended purpose of generating ideas and communicating them to board members, then we can all take part in figuring out solutions or new ideas.

This way, I think we'll get better ideas and the group as a whole can see feedback or the process so we are't wondering how something went or if it's been brought up before as well as working through ideas as a group. What I may think is a good idea may not register the same with the masses. We should be able to identify good, realistic ideas through this avenue as opposed to just shooting ideas at niu1980 through PMs.
