His buyout is ludicrous for anyone, it would be downright horrible for MSU to pay it after the payout they've had to make for all of the rapes/sexual assaults they allowed to occur under their roof for the past two decades.

Fleck is in a great position right now. He gets all the attention in the state (no other FBS programs to compete with in MN), he's in the more winnable B1G division, and has an easier-to-please fan base.

If MSU (or other colleges) don't want to make these payouts, then don't approve of them in contracts that the college agrees to

Never thought it possible that any school would give Tennessee a run for most "Dysfunctional Coaching Search".....and apparently today one of the trustees went on local sports talk today and called Fickell a "waffling flake"

https://twitter.com/JamieSamuelsen/statu...44480?s=20

Yeah.....this seems like a stable situation

...um...Minnesota negotiated that, specifically to deter interest from other schools...that's what buyouts are for...

The dumpster fire up in E. Lansing might not be worth it for JC...
Even though it would be an extensive bump up in $$$$ for him and a chance to latch unto one of the better (historically anyway) jobs in the BIG 10...

That fan base would burn East Lansing to the ground if they hired Candle after last season’s collapse. He may very well end up somewhere other than Toledo, but not for another couple seasons, imo.

Even assuming no scandal, just business as usual at MSU

Would your first move from G5 to a P5 school be to The Big 10 East? I guess if you thought you wouldn't have other options, which Candle clearly will assuming another year or 2 of success

Or do you take jobs like Fleck and Drinkwitz did....in easier divisions

Campbell has already said no to MSU

Why would he do that? I could imagine him maybe turning down Indiana or Illinois. But, MSU? I think that would be a mistake, but we shall see.

Per ESPN: Michigan State is expected to hire Colorado’s Mel Tucker as next head coach - The Athletic

Jason Candle is staying in Toledo (for now)! I can rest peacefully now.

I’m willing to bet Campbell is only leaving Ames for an elite P5 program such as LSU, OSU, or Clemson. If he continues to have success at Iowa St, he’ll get one of those jobs within 3-5 years

More than doubling his $2.7 million salary may have had something to do with it.

Speaking of ludicrous, Temple's Rod Carey has a $10 million buyout. How in the HELL does Temple have that big of a buyout for its coach yet Toledo only has a half a million buyout for Candle?

Paying him $2M/6 years with about 75% of that guaranteed...the guarantee is what allowed for that concession probably. We're talking about doing the same sort of thing for Fickell just with more money and years.
