RE: Dantonio retires
It's possible they'll keep Mike Tressel as Interim through 2020 season and do a search after, when things have settled down or at least become clearer and won't feel so rushed.

Like OSU did with Fickell in 2011 after Jim Tressel resigned late.

That would make the most sense.

2020 will be a very rough year for MSU. Let Tressel take it and completely extinguish the Dantonio era in the fan's mind (remember many OSU fans just wanted Jim Tressel 2.0? Seems like the MSU slappies are no different). Then move forward, as Ohio State did, with a new coach, staff, vision, and superior system.

Fickell seems to be the front runner in most peoples eyes, but I'm not sure Dantonio would want to leave his coaches without jobs -- which may be the reason for the late exit. Thinking it through, Tressel seems like the obvious choice for Dantonio's hand picked replacement. Dantonio said he would like to see a younger coach with midwest ties. Whoever takes it over has a lot of work ahead of them!

I ironically had just tuned into Valente’s show minutes after the news broke. He has been calling for Dantonio’s head for years, calling for change at the coordinators position and exploding when the DC-OC circle jerk happened.

As overly-loyal MD is to his staff I don’t believe there was any altruistic motive behind the timing of this. I firmly believe he has 4.3 million reasons to stay on until he did. Was waiting a couple weeks to distance himself from pay day, then was going to site stress as part of why he made the decision. The Blackwell litigation probably moved that up. It’ll be interesting to see where that goes. The minor recruiting infractions cited the day prior don’t seem to be enough, unless there’s more...
