I would think Narduzzi would be choice #1 for them.

Also don't think it is as desirable as some think with all the legal issues around the program. If I had to bet, they will try for a couple of bigger fish (Narduzzi, Fickell) and eventually roll with an assistant taking the interim job this year and re-visit after the season.

The 1st clue should have been the 6 or 8 players that voluntarily entered the transfer portal this year... I knew there were problems. Unless they throw insane cash at Coach I don't think he leaves.

This opening has me worried, cause it seems like a good Big10 landing spot for Fickell, but the timing of it all seems atrocious. The new staff has no ability to recruit, and you basically lose an entire year of rebuilding.

That program is about to lose a lot more than a year of rebuilding.

This will be an interim for the year then they go get someone in November who they've been courting all year. Timing is absolutely terrible for MSU and the coach coming in if it isn't an interim...they've effectively killed a recruiting cycle this way.

I wonder if MSU goes with an interim on their staff. For chrissakes tomorrow is the late signing day. You almost could not pick a worse day to announce this.

My guess is there have been negotiations going on for a month on how to calculate the buyout with the huge retention bonus he earned at the start of January.

It's basically the same situation Luke Fickell was in during the lame duck year at Ohio State...

Screw it. Let’s go full on pirate and see who they were planning to sign tomorrow.

Pick the carcass clean.

I literally just looked at their commits...unfortunately the one with pretty significant ties to both (Angelo Grose, who was committed to us at one point) has already enrolled at MSU, meaning he would be a transfer and have to sit the first year.

Bolded, are there still some waivers that apply to recruits if the head coach resigned or is dismissed? I know there were at one time. Of course with the transfer portal today, it's a fast spinning revolving door anyway.

Let's be honest, Nardurzzi would be a stupid ******* hire over Fick. Everything Nardurzzi does well is offered by Fick, and yet the latter has been far more successful in a shorter period of time.

Pray for an interim, pray for someone out of left field like Campbell, pray for sanctions, or pray for incompetence. This one's gonna be tough.

I mean with the timing there's no chance these two stories are unrelated.

Can't imagine with what Fickel's building here he'd want to jump into that mess. Better jobs than MSU are on the horizon if he has the next couple seasons he is likely to have here.

Yeah, 247 lists only 3 recruits who have "committed" but not signed. Two of them are only getting looks from MAC or FCS schools. The 3rd is a RB from Georgia with 19 P5 offers and no offer from UC.

And so it begins.....

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/colle...658067002/

Cincinnati's Luke Fickell is the front-runner to replace Mark Dantonio as Michigan State's football coach, multiple sources with knowledge of the athletic department's thinking told the Free Press on Tuesday.

No deal is currently in place, the sources said.
