Oh I completely agree. Just wonder if he starts thinking this is the perfect storm for him to get a “upper level” P5 job. CC has never struck me as a $$$ guy but quadrupling or more your pay doesn’t happen often.

I have certain vibes, and they are from his public persona:

1). C.C. is a man of deep faith and decency. He dislikes getting into the moral swamp which can infect college sports.

2). C.C. will not sell his soul for $.

Certain schools and conference have bad reputations. I don't think he'd take a job where he has to cheat to win.

One of the good things about the MAC is that coaches don't need to cheat to compete with other schools in their conference.

im not sure i can begrudge a guy for getting ten times his salary

RE: O/T Dantonio resigns
Here is what I see. If Dantonio had intentions to retire anytime during the season, he would gone to the MSU administration, they would have paid him the retention bonus he earned in January and they could have begun a much more detailed and organized coaching search. The timing of his retirement announcement was virtually immediate after the deposition in the Blackwell trial. Why MSU did not settle with Blackwell baffles me as I think some testimony will reveal NCAA issues with the football program and Dantonio just decided to jump off the burning ship. The timing of his departure was just plain horrible timing with respect to the football program.

So now MSU has to search for a new coach well past the "season" for doing so, similar to OSU when Jim Tressel was fired and Luke Fickell was named interim coach. Ironic how the names are the same. Nevertheless MSU is hardly a top 25 job (ask Nick Saban) and now is facing possible NCAA violations and an incoming recruiting class that has been described as anemic. If I am Fickell, Tucker or Narduzzi, of course I am saying hell no!

Creighton would be a great hire, he embraces a challenge and MSU would at a minimum quadruple his salary. His high moral standards are exactly what MSU needs right now as well. Fortunately MSU's AD Beekman seems bound and determined to prove that Wetherbee is not the most incompetent AD in the state. I think we will be OK.

I wish we had MSU on the schedule this fall. Toledo does. Their fans must be salivating.

There is no longer an A list. The stench of Nasser over all things MSU is worse than Penn St.
Even Izzo is off this year. Likely NCAA violations. its a tar pit. There will cleaner and better opportunities for CC

I don’t think many if any.

MSU was never a great football job, even Saban did not do very well there. Dantonio enjoyed a rare moment in the sun when PSU was enduring Sandusky, OSU was reeling from Tresell and Michigan was clueless with Rich Rod and Hoke. Franklin, Meyer and Harbaugh changed the landscape. It is not Rutgers but it is not a premier job.

I just hope that Dantonio is not trying to embellish his legacy by employing the Lloyd Carr "leave the cupboard bare" method. He was a good football coach and truly great coaches leave the program better than they found it.

His wife said that. If Dantonio resigned in December instead of February, Fickell would be the MSU coach right now.

Hoping they hire Butch Jones. Since he's only an assistant right now that would be the least disruptive hire for the rest of the college FB world.

Agreed, or any assistant at all. Bielema is what I’m hoping for. That wouldn’t disrupt the college FB world at all (save for whatever staff he brings), and we’d definitely still have our head coach.

At this point, I'm thinking Mike Tressel is going to be kept on as interim, and they'll wait until December to hire a permanent coach. That likely means a down year for my alma mater again, and another s#*t recruiting year, but, no disrespect to CC or any of the others on the B-list, it also means not having to settle for someone just to fill the job.

Number of Nassar victims vs known Penn State victims. Settlement dollars paid. Number of officials resigned.

RE: O/T Dantonio resigns
I don't get it. If Mike Tressell is being considered for interim, that decision could have been made in the first week of January. Everybody screams that Dantonio waited around for a backloaded bonus payment but WE KNEW ABOUT THAT THE ENTIRE SEASON.

Then a Board of Trustees member comes on 97.1 today and says "we can't force anyone to come here" . . . so much for coaches crawling in . . .

They could have saved so much face by going the interim route immediately. This year and next year's recruiting year were already shot.

I keep wondering if this is part of a "kindly lower your expectations" campaign by the Athletic Department.

Truly a cogent post.

I'm 99% sure that MSU would have surrendered that bonus payment early if he would have come to them two months earlier. It would have been a win-win for both.

Ah yes the $ can change anyone's immediate perspective. I'm not impressed with the new coach's credentials but I love the fact his name is not Chris Creighton.
