Michigan State isn’t a Big Ten also-ran. They are one of the top 20 programs in the country in terms of athletic revenue. Even though they got boned on the timing by Dantonio, they can (and should) definitely hire a more qualified candidate than Creighton, or any MAC coach, for that matter.

I'm much less worried about MSU hiring CC than i am the school that the person who eventually takes that job hiring CC. Cincy, Pitt, Temple (Rod Carey) all schools that could hire CC.

I agree as well. If MSU hires Fickell, Creighton would be a good candidate for Cincinnati. Although, I still think his overall record would be a rough sell to a fan base that has come to expect to be consistently near the top of the AAC. His best jump would be to a rebuilding, lower tier P5.

Yeah, he would've been on our list too, but his record is a tough sell. He's doing a great job there.

Thanks for the contribution JHG722. You are 100% correct, Detroit sports media seem the only people seriously considering Creighton for any of these bigger jobs. They realize the magnitude of his achievement, major donors at higher profile programs will not. He does not have a division title, while McElwain, Leipold and Martin do.

Luke Fickell is staying at Cincy. Time to start worrying about Creighton. Michigan State can’t afford to keep getting rejected, so I bet they start offering guys who won’t say no to a massive raise.

McElwain, Leipold, Candle, and Martin all would get calls before Creighton.

The timing screams "hire an interim", so my money's on Tressell.

I'm convinced MSU's AD went after these other "obvious" choices (Fickell and Narduzzi) in an effort to prove that they weren't actually options.

Creighton could succeed mightily at MSU but it would take far more patience than that fan base can muster.

The guys on 97.1 are talking about this right now. They're kicking around names like Butch Jones and PJ Fleck. And yes, CC was mentioned.

Leipold Seems like a good fit. Buffalo's style seems similar to MSUs traditional style. Tough defense and a strong running game.

True. A FB parent told me privately very early on what C.C.'s system was for discipline, failed drug tests, etc.

The players knew from day one what the consequences would be.

"C.C. don't play..."

Keeping Tressel as an interim for a year is a disaster for recruiting. MSU is far better off throwing money at a coach who won’t be able to refuse it (MAC, Sun Belt coaches) so they can show some sense of direction. There’s no benefit to an interim coach, and there’s no guarantee that better candidates will be there at the end of the 2020 season. They need to hire someone quickly.

He was downright awful at Arkansas.

I heard report of a rumor that he said he would be interested in the job.

Lol, especially after Dantonio's "I can't tell you I'll be there in 2024" spiel.

You're right about recruiting, but I think installing a dead man walking from a Sun Belt school is an even bigger recipe for disaster.

Oh I completely agree. Just wonder if he starts thinking this is the perfect storm for him to get a “upper level” P5 job. CC has never struck me as a $$$ guy but quadrupling or more your pay doesn’t happen often.

I have certain vibes, and they are from his public persona:

1). C.C. is a man of deep faith and decency. He dislikes getting into the moral swamp which can infect college sports.

2). C.C. will not sell his soul for $.

Certain schools and conference have bad reputations. I don't think he'd take a job where he has to cheat to win.

One of the good things about the MAC is that coaches don't need to cheat to compete with other schools in their conference.
