Consideration of Resolution approving the preliminary project
scope and budget for the Renovation of the Wallace Physical
Education Building for a Basketball Practice Facility at UAB (Stage
I)
There's four stages of approval so hopefully we can start construction by the end of the year and have it ready for the start of the 2021-2022 season.

This is also an interesting item:
Consideration of Resolution Accepting Gifts and Pledges from
Various Donors, Expressing Appreciation, and Establishing Naming

Been waiting on the day that UAB hoops will try to actually announce this project on its social media platforms so the general public knows. Let folks know that you are attempting to make some sort of investment in the program.

We think it will benefit the program and help our coaches train our team and make the Blazers a championship contender year after year.

I do find it weird that we tear down $40 million buildings and build $78 million buildings and consider it $78 million invested towards UAB.
The Hill Center was torn down & rebuilt in this same way.

RE: Basketball Practice Facility on This Week's BOT Agenda
why do you care? did you want to buy it or something?
Hill Center needs to be state of the art. It attracts students. athletic and academic.
just because it has residual value doesn't mean it needs to be kept around when the rest of the Academic America rebuilds/upgrades facilities.
if you are upset about Hill Center and Wallace Gym etc. you need to visit the buildings they rip down at UAT. hell they repave the same parkings lots around the foobaw stadium every couple of years it seems.

It's moving to the space the School of Business vacated when they moved to their new building. The former School of Business space is being renovated right now before Education moves in.

I would like for the new School of Education building to be named the Thompson - Wilson Building for two of the pioneer graduate school professors when it all began in Tidwell Hall.

I don't know the last time you were in the Education Building, but I was last in there about 7-8 years ago. It should've been condemned. It would've cost $40 million to bring it up to any modern standard. Also, consider that this is going in the spot of the Education Building but it's actually replacing Campbell Hall and the Chemistry Building (at least partially)

Unless they have $40 million that's unlikely. I don't know if it's a written policy but you basically have to pay for the entire building (or some majority of it) to get your name on it. That's why we get inspiring building names like Heritage Hall, University Hall, University Blvd Office Building, Blazer Hall, New Freshman Residence Hall, etc even though there's no shortage of former UAB Presidents, faculty, etc whose names could be put on these buildings
