That's the real icing on the cake -- the only silver lining in all of this is that FCS has the spotlight to itself. All those broadcast windows where ESPN and FOX had penciled in XFL games are open, and we're trapped in FloSports. But at least all of that sweet, sweet streaming money is keeping our athletic department in the black!

Obviously a big accomplishment, but would someone want to receive an honor in this "category"? Hes got a chance to win the SuperBowl this year, number one. But otherwise, I think it would make more sense to honor him in a few years...Hes 9 wins from passing Bill Cowher and 53 from Chuck Noll. Being the winningest coach in Steeler history would be astonishing.

I'm not sure, but in my mind any chance we have to get him at a game we should take. I believe Tomlin was at homecoming a few years back because it lined up with the Steeler's bye week, it's usually tough for an NFL coach to make a College football game since the seasons overlap, this spring season would provide a rare opportunity where they're more available.

Heck, if we could get Tomlin, McDermott, Joe Brady, and others to a game in the spring, that would be pretty neat.

As long as it's just a flimsy excuse to bring him back and celebrate that he's a great coach and graduated from W&M, I don't see the harm. I mean, bring him back for all 3 of those milestones. But your point makes sense. If this was the first time we were recognizing him then it would be different IMO.

2020-2021 Tribe Football
Tribe Football has a Football Alumni Liaison, charged with maintainining/developing relationships with former players. Let's invite everyone to our home game vs UR, not just our NFL coaches.

So why don't we have a ring of fame, alumni homecoming game, etc.? Shouldn't be too hard to pull off. While we're at it, let's put a statue or a bust of Laycock somewhere on the grounds.

Doesn't Laycock already have a building? Money is tight and people already have railed against Griffin statues and slave memorials. I'm sure members of the community losing their sports that think too much focus is put on football would love to see a brand new statue of Coach Laycock smiling at them.

Shortly after the decision was made to name the football center after him, Laycock
said he was grateful for the gesture, noting that it was decidedly better than a statue because the latter would attract too much impromptu bird defecation.

RE: 2020-2021 Tribe Football
to all yee naysayers.....football does represent an important part of our athletic department history even with the scandal. I get the point about the spending for a Laycock statue, and yes I understand that an entire building is named after him. My point was a little tongue in cheek.

Why don't we have a ring of honor at Zable? Seems easy to me. Promote it, get donors, etc. Name sections of Zable after historically significant alumni.

Why don't we have an alumni homecoming game that is different than regular homecoming? Again, seems like a fairly easy thing to do.

Let's not wait until we run out of people with money.

As I said, there's a new football alumni liaison and he's working on building those relationships and scheduling special events.

I wonder if he's be willing to solicit donations to the swim team. One Tribe, One Family and all ...

Maybe it was mentioned somewhere else and I just missed it, but kudos to Karl Fowler following the Paul Rowley path by graduating early and playing college ball while enrolled in law school. Phenomenal to now have two student athletes setting that precedence.
