Is it fairly possible that popular vacation destinations and the accompanying massive influx of people over the last few weeks are a big part of the uptick and not necessarily their rush to reopen?

Montana and Hawaii are nearly double the % in both categories than any other state.

This NYT article is 3 hrs old:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020...cases.html

NYT did a good job with this. It shows what the doctors at Bakersfield Medical said 3 months ago...the more cases, the fewer % of deaths. A lot of people mocked their position. Nationally, a huge jump in cases that coincides with summer vacation but a massive drop in deaths since April.

Re-opening was necessary for the vacationers to have somewhere to go. Part of the problem with the rush to reopen was not having a plan for what's happening now. It also serves as a cautionary tale for Williamsburg. Discouraging vacationers until there's better planning in place is the right move, despite our reliance on tourist income.

Deaths in Florida are presently fewer than in April and most of which in Miami-Dade County. So, fewer deaths since the "rush" to reopen. There is a massive spike in confirmed cases since June 8th, the start of vacation season. Since I keep reading that the virus can take weeks to show symptoms, I wonder if snow birds from the NE brought the virus with them.

What is undeniable is poorer areas have been hit hardest. The poorer areas in my county are deemed hot spots...lots of multi-family households with earners who work around a lot of people, who, let's face it, probably aren't practicing social distancing, wearing masks, or using hand sanitizer.

RE: 2020 Tribe Football
My point still remains. Deaths will not be the deciding factor in whether or not we get a full football season. President Rowe's (and other University Presidents) decision to protect the school from lawsuits, should there be a campus outbreak, will be the larger factor. If there isn't a fairly sizable outbreak on campus, by Week 3, I'll be surprised.

In pro sports, liability will also be the ultimate determining factor.. I don't see how the NFL can avoid it.

Has anyone heard anything re season tickets and possibility of transferring payment to next season, prorating or refunds should the season not go forward with fans as hoped?

If I were the athletic department, I'd have a plan or be developing a plan, but I wouldn't be releasing the plan until necessary. Whatever the plan is or will be, is also likely to change between now and when the season would start. I wouldn't be surprised to see dates start to get released that will determine the last chance for current plans to change.

William and Mary Weekend in SF, tied in with the Stanford game, was moved this week from September to next June. All W&M-related activities are definitely a dynamic situation that will require plan A, B and C.

RE: 2020 Tribe Football
We aren't going to have football. With the mess at Clemson and elsewhere, there's no chance that games are held. We're 65 days out from the first games. Administrators at many schools are going to start putting their feet down soon, and that will wreck everyone's schedules. I'll bet that someone suggests a 32 team tournament or something like that held at a neutral site. If teams like Alabama want to have spectators, it's going to be interesting what the city of Tuscaloosa has to say about it. Same with Knoxville, Ann Arbor, etc. Are the colleges going to make players sign waivers? Are the referees going to buy in to it?

I'd say there's more of a chance that colleges shut down than we have football. Forget basketball unless there's a vaccine.

The only reason basketball might still be in play is that there's a lot of time between now and when decisions would have to be made. Maybe there's also the possibility of an abbreviated season that starts in 2021 or some other adjustment? But currently, agree with all of this.

If there is a 2020 season, it will involve some additional costs.

The CAA has "postponed" its virtual football media day, which was scheduled for next Tuesday. Read into that what you will.

A view of the completed new field turf. A shame no football to play on it this fall.

Most probably planning to be a school-open walk-on. Good looking prospect for that. Never sell those guys short. Remember Ben Cottingham who played in 43 games with 36 starts and was a team Captain in 2010.
