Those 3 games were fun but we are back to reality unfortunately. Elon and JMU are two really bad losses. Let's get through the year and make a hire to get recruiting going again.

I don’t think this loss finalizes anything. Just as many of us went too hard, too fast on calling Burke the guy, there’s no reason to think these last 3 games eliminated him. That’s moving the pendulum too far in the other direction.

You will see a huge difference in this team when Phillips returns. Mark my words. Go back and watch the ball movement on offense, his drives into the paint on offense that just can't be stopped, his mid range jumper when Burke took over. Not the same team without him. Turnovers.

I don't get a vote but to me it solidifies things. We will see what Bass thinks. To be sure he has a plan. I guess the best way to put it is if he has plans to hire from the outside, which I strongly assumed, then that decision is getting easier and easier to make and justify. Burke is not making the decision that difficult right now but there are some games remaining.

There’s points to be made on both sides of that coin. You’re right, right now we are not getting it done against the bottom of the conference. On the flip side of that, 82 is right that without Shy running the offense it gets ugly and gets ugly fast. Why not playing is not a coaching decision, but an outside factor that greatly affects our ceiling right now.

We had our starting PG quit on the team. Our backup is currently injured during this bad stretch.

SN08 makes a good point that this doesn’t necessarily end the Burke potential, but it doesn’t help it either. There is work to be done there through the end of the season. If Burke can get everyone healthy and get an upset or more in the CAAT, anything could happen there.

Right now we all just need to dial back a notch or three and hope Shy gets healthy.

Do we have a backup to the backup? Maybe a combo guard who is functional? It sounds like we don’t.

Also how many scholarships do we have for next year’s class? The beauty of college basketball is how quickly you can turn over a roster. If we add a couple of fairly good post players who know they get playing time immediately and another PG then I think we could be in business pretty quickly.

We don't have a backup PG. And to make matters worse, Toews was our starting PG and he was turning the ball over like crazy and did a bad job of running the offense. The ONLY time this entire season when we weren't turning the ball over A LOT and our offensive movement was good, is with Shy at the helm and Burke as the coach.

The offense just isnt there without shy. At one point we were at 7% from the 3 point line in the 2nd half. If Shy can come back before DC we may be able to pull an upset or 2, but 82 is spot on, this team just cannot win without Shy

Obviously can't imagine we'll see Shykeim until next week, at earliest. Meaning Homecoming Saturday could be ugly. Hopefully the other guys rise to the occasion and make things competitive against a superior Tribe squad. Big crowd coming, as usual.

With Shy, we can beat any team in the CAA. Without him, it's tough. Shy is very good and may play on Saturday but may not for 1 more game. Ty can really shoot the ball so you want him off the ball for the most part. It's a double whammy and with Sims not playing with confidence, it's really tough. The defense and rebounding was good.

Sims needs to not read any negativity and just play his game. And, he needs to get something early whether a drive or a made 3 ball. You've got to get him back to playing like he can. He's far too talented to get down on himself like he does. It's all about his mindset not his ability right now. Change your preshot routine a tad young man to get confidence. I did that and it made all the difference for me when I played ball and for most players that I've coached. FT's are mental and getting a good routine that gives you rhythm.

We need Mike to be a confident Mike too and we need Brian to get rolling.

Dodd is giving you good play. Marty needs to get going again but I'm glad that he's not forcing it lately.

Boggs is close to knocking it down consistently. He pulled off of his shot just a tad early 2x and they barely rimmed out. He should practice getting the puppies set then holding the cookie jar finish until nylon. The skill is there.

Where's Estime? Having another shooter would free up everybody. I wish an Estime appearance could happen.

Team needs Shy bad! He's our only PG and probably our best player right now. I love watching him play period.

Hard to press effectively after makes without enough guys. That's the issue right now.

Ty G needs to shoot the 3 often and guys need to set him up. We need drive and kicks bad. I'd like to see some replacement action where the guard/wing drives the ball and Ty goes to where the drive started. That's not a bad idea if he's forced into PG because the looks are tougher when he's marked.

As bad as the offense was, they had a shot tonight. If Shy plays, we win easily. He's that important now to this team.

At blue water today he said shy should be able to play Saturday. He also talked about recruiting and said we need to have 3 post players on the team and 3 point guards.he also said we needed to get a graduate transfer or junior college transfer and that older players help a team.

Agreed. Getting him back and putting a good showing against a top tier team and arguably rival #2 William and Mary on homecoming would help tremendously after tonight.

While the play-in round is now unavoidable, there is no reason this team cannot regroup and still be a threat to the top tier teams in DC

Seahawks, Tribe Clash In Homecoming Game

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – It's down the home stretch for the UNCW men's basketball team as the Seahawks entertain longtime rival William & Mary on Saturday in the annual homecoming game at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks, 7-18 overall and 2-10 in the Colonial Athletic Association, battle the Tribe for the second time this season in a 7 p.m. matchup. W&M, 16-9 and 8-4, claimed the initial meeting, 79-63, in Williamsburg in the third conference game of the campaign for the Seahawks.

Only six games remain in the regular season for the Seahawks, including four at home, where UNCW stands 5-7 on the year.

UNCW has dropped three straight games since knocking off Northeastern and Charleston. The Tribe fell out of first place following a stinging 68-50 loss at Charleston on Thursday.

UNCW looks to bounce back following a 62-56 setback on Thursday to Elon. Graduate guard Marcus Sheffield II's clutch bucket with 18 seconds left clinched the win as the Phoenix completed a sweep of the regular season series with the Seahawks.

W&M, meanwhile, suffered its second straight loss and was held to a season-low 50 points as CofC gained sole possession of first place in the conference. Brevin Galloway's career-high 23 points offset a double-double of 28 points and 18 rebounds by Tribe senior forward Nathan Knight.

The 6-10, 253-pound Knight is no stranger to the Seahawks. He has faced UNCW eight times, making five starts, and averaged 14.5 points and 6.4 rebounds. He stands 5-3 vs. UNCW during his career with the Tribe.

In the last game between the two schools on Jan. 9 in Williamsburg, W&M led wire-to-wire at Kaplan Arena. Senior center Andy Van Vliet anchored four W&M players in double figures with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while Knight added a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds.

Saturday's contest will be carried over the air on The Breeze, 95.9 FM, with play-by-play voice Mike Vaccaro and color analyst Marty Feurer providing the call. The game may be heard worldwide on the station's website, http://www.959thebreeze.com. A live video stream will be available on FloSports.com.

Seahawk Storylines

Following the clash with the Tribe, the Seahawks embark on their final road trip of the '19-20 regular season, traveling to Northeastern and Hofstra next week for games with the Huskies on Thursday, Feb. 13, and the Pride on Saturday, Feb. 15.

The Seahawks and Tribe are colliding for the 76th time. UNCW leads the all-time series by a 44-31 margin, but W&M has taken four of the last five and six of the last 10 matchups.

The 75-game UNCW-W&M series is the third longest on record for the Seahawks, ranking only behind longtime state foe Campbell and CAA rival James Madison.

The Seahawks are 0-2 in February after losses to James Madison and Elon to start the final month of the regular season.

Freshman guard Shykeim Phillips, one of the top rookies in the loop, is questionable again on Saturday after going into concussion protocol last weekend. He's been recognized as CAA Rookie of the Week twice already and has led the team in scoring twice. Phillips has scored in double digits on 11 occasions.

The Seahawks stand 5-7 on their home floor, beating Johnson & Wales, Campbell, N.C. Wesleyan, Emory & Henry and Northeastern. UNCW has lost to North Carolina, Mercer, Charlotte, James Madison, Towson, Hofstra and Elon at Trask Coliseum.

Led by sophomores Imajae Dodd (27) and Marten Linssen (18), the Seahawks rank third in the CAA in blocks with 3.2 per game.

UNCW turned in its best defensive performances of the season in Thursday's matchup vs. Elon. The Seahawks held the Phoenix to just 34.6 percent shooting, a season low for opponents.

The Seahawks used their 10th different starting lineup of the season in Thursday night's loss to Elon. It also marked the fifth different starting five in as many games. No player has opened every game in 2019-20.
