RE: Laughable Scores--College Basketball--January
This isn't a laughable score or even something that's kept track of as a statistic, but it's rare. George Washington won 107-104 hosting Davidson in four overtimes. The rare thing is that GW finished with four timeouts. Teams start the second half with three or fewer timeouts and gain one per overtime, but teams often use timeouts in close games. GW was done 6 over halfway through the second overtime and came back without calling timeout. Starting with 17:11 left in the second half, GW called only one timeout in 36:52, and they called one with 18.5 seconds left. Of their seven timeouts in the second half and overtimes, they used two in the second half and one in the fourth overtime. Davidson shot field goals well and committed only 7 turnovers, but struggled at the free throw line shooting 16-26 (.615). Jon Axel Gudmundsson led Davidson with 31, but he missed 2 free throws with 42 seconds left in the third overtime, and after GW tied it, he missed a three at the buzzer that would have won it.

That is VERY unusual. Thanks for posting. Fascinating. I knew it had taken four OTs but I did not know the specifics.

Party town in GTS-land. South Carolina Upstate hoses off Presbyterian on a buzzer beater.

This came out 2/2, but I'm fascinated by the first Bubble Watch and how few teams are locks. And even those who actually are, too.
Like, nobody in the Big Ten is a lock. But, Seton Hall in the Big East is. Remind me who Seton Hall's best win is? Oh, that's right...Maryland. Who isn't a lock. Stumbling Butler? Not a lock. Michigan State beat Seton Hall, but, not a lock. Oregon did, too...not a lock.
I do think this could be a good year for chaos in the brackets.
