Clearly I'm talking about Sean Lewis bringing this "be the alpha" Moto to the football program. Only solution is we're going to have to fire Sean Lewis...

Here's the difference with that line of thinking ... In football, on any given play, 90-percent of the time only two guys out of 11 touch the ball (after the snap) ... the QB and the player he either hands it to or throws it to.

You can be an 'Alpha' in FB without ever touching the ball.

Basketball practically demands multiple touches by multiple players on every possession for success. Success in FB comes with positive yardage and first downs, then scoring. In FB a player that converts multiple third-and-shorts is viewed to be just as valuable as the QB that scores the TD.

In BB the only success that 'earns' a player anything is to score, period. For Kent, the key is to find that early chemistry when the five starters all averaged in double figures every game. When is the last time that happened.

I think Rob Senderoff is a terrific coach. I think he is much better than anyone will ever give him credit for. He has provided this program some great stability. But his weakness was on full display tonight. He just doesn’t hold players accountable - at least that I can see. How many times this year has Troy Simons been T’d up in the critical moments of a game? Tonight makes at least four. And yet he plays 38 minutes? I might be able to see if he was giving you 25 points a night, but he isn’t. It’s a selfish play and it’s been a problem for him all year and throughout his career. But he gets away with it. It’s embarrassing and very hard to root for.

It was a terrible performance all the way around. By the coaches, players and fans. You mean to tell me 4,000 people could make it at 6:30 on a Friday night but not at 7:00 on a Tuesday for a game equally as important? Pathetic.

No player in Kent State history has regressed worse than Mitch Peterson. His shot is hard to watch.

The better team won tonight.

Jim. I agree with every word. Only thing I would add is NCAA transfer portal is also to blame. Coaches can’t discipline or criticize players or they will threaten to leave and go elsewhere. Like the NBA ( I hate it). Players are now in charge. Some of our eligible players, ( no names) play as if they are trying out for other schools. Thus the lack of passing and assists.
How many times last night did the players who brought the ball across half court shoot with no passes. Basketball was always the ultimate team game. The winners pass the ball. Last night very little passing.

Leave and go where? Where does someone go if they ride the pine at Kent? I don't want to be hard on our school, but we are what we are.

To be clear, my post was entirely tongue in cheek and no part of it should be viewed as an actual line of thinking.

I did not need this post to figure that out.

The only success that earns a player anything is to score??? Is that analytics or something? Assists?, Rebounds?, Post Season accolades including defensive POY to add to your resume? The chance to play in the NCAA Tournament and get the exposure that comes with it?

I'm sorry man but winning programs teach their players to rise above that mentality. I am sure that you can count Kent State Basketball in as a program preaches the same.

RE: Kent State vs. Ball State
I was just thinking about how much one thing has changed. There was a time, until 1973, when there were no limits on NCAA scholarships. I recall that Ohio State used to hand out football scholarships to practically every little town's football star. I knew of plenty of really good players who would sign with Ohio State in football and to a lesser extent basketball and get almost no playing time at all during their four years there, yet never transferred away!! Those days are long gone.
