Does that leave enough room for a NYD quarterfinal and Saturday semifinal without NFL interference?
They could just add it on at the beginning of the season and get rid of an exhibition game.

The current plan is to continue starting after Labor Day and add 1 week for an extra game and 1 week for an extra bye (though I saw something that said 3 total weeks, so maybe a Wild Card play-in round, lol).

NFL season could be longer as we have a gap from now until March Madness starts. This could allow for the CFP to easily expand to another week or two.

NFL needs another playoff team too. Add 1 more for 7 on each side, and only one bye per conference.

It's just going to be a free for all every day of the week in the fall and winter at multiple levels and as long as people keep throwing around moneybags for the content it won't stop.
Mid-June - End of August: Canadian Football League ... games every Friday and Saturday. A few more besides.
End of August - Start November: CFL every Friday, Saturday ... HS every Friday, some Saturday ... CFB every Th, Sat, and most Fri. ... NFL every Monday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Start November - Start December: CFL Playoffs Fri, Sat ... HS playoffs every Fri, some Sat ... CFB every Tues, Wed, Th, Fri, Sat ... NFL every Mon, Th, Sun.
Mid-December - Start January: CFB bowls every weekend day and near the holidays every weekday too ... NFL every Mon, Th, Sun until the end.
Start January - Start February: NFL Playoffs
Start February - Start June: XFL

Yes, absolutely.
In fact, pushing the NFL playoffs back by another 2 weeks is, in my mind, inextricably linked to whether there's an expanded 8-team playoff. If/when the NFL pushes its playoffs back, then that effectively opens up most of the month of January for a full-on 8-team college football playoff that starts on or around New Year's Day.
Ultimately, playoff games in January are worth more than playoff games in December (lowest-rated month of the year for the TV networks) for college football.
By the same token, playoff games in February (sweeps month for the TV networks) are worth more than playoff games in January for the NFL.
The more high profile games that shift toward January and February, the better it is for the TV rights for both pro and college football.

Correct. A primary goal is to get as much of the NFL playoffs into February (sweeps month for the TV networks) as possible. Everything about this proposal is about TV, TV, TV.

RE: If NFL moves to 17 games as reported starting 2021...
Of course, the real question is how much more money are the NFL players are going to receive with the expanded schedule.
The players are going to instinctively NOT want an expanded schedule... and rightfully so. Why would they put their bodies on the line just to line the pockets of the owners even more?
So, the NFL has to show some compelling increased revenue sharing evidence to the players. The 17th game plus an extra bye week means that each TV package covers 19 weeks as opposed to the current 17 weeks, so that can increase revenue substantially. That 17th game for each team might be auctioned off as a separate package, so that's another revenue increase. An extra week of playoffs would be a huge revenue increase. Pushing more playoff games into February also makes such games more valuable to the TV networks.
There are a lot of ways that the NFL can raise a lot more revenue with a 17-game schedule, but the devil is in the details for the players to see if they're getting what they consider to be their fair share, too.

Kick Daytona out of that Sunday. They can run the race on Saturday and make it a single day if it isn't already. Otherwise bump them up a week, or sandwich it alongside the Pro Bowl.

January is not the problem, it's February. The networks will force changes to accommodate the NFL since it drives viewership. Daytona, NBA All-Star Game, and The Academy Awards face one less Sunday to hold their event, so it crams them into basically two February Sundays or move to March, away from Sweeps Month.
The Academy Awards have moved before since even in the 80s and 90s, they used to be held on a Monday night in March or April up against the NCAA Championship.

Is the NFL aware that if they choose to make the regular season last into January that they are going to have far more games in frigid conditions in places like Green Bay, Cleveland, Buffalo, New England, and Denver?
They’d be far better off starting the season earlier and permitting more prime time games for warm weather teams who play outdoors like Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa, LA, Carolina, etc.

There will never be any brand new Open air NFL stadium proposed ever again in northern NFL cities. From now on , they will all be either retractable roof, like in Indy, or the new trendy translucent roofs, like in Minny.

Yes, they realize that.
It’s irrelevant.
This is about money for TV, TV, TV. The NFL’s power comes from its strength in television. August is a terrible month for TV ratings while January and February are great for TV ratings. That is ALL that matters here (for better or worse). There’s NFW that they’re starting the season earlier. The NFL, and more importantly, the TV networks *want* the playoffs to be during the valuable sweeps month of February.

None of those things will happen. NASCAR is already in the process of shortening its schedule by way of double headers and eliminating some tracks that have two dates in the coming years. Daytona will always be after the NFL season ends.

What happened to NASCAR?
A few years ago, it seemed ubiquitous – like it was everywhere. Even for someone like me, who never really followed it, I knew who Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and (the other) Jimmy Johnson were.
Now, I have no idea who’s considered the good drivers and I have no idea who is winning the Winston Cup circuit or even who has won it in the past few years? It just seems like it’s a lot less present in the culture than it used to be. Is that fair? If so, why is that the case?

Outside of Buffalo, I can't think of a northern NFL team that doesn't have a new stadium or massively overhauled their old one in the last 20 years.

Right, they are not going to build new indoor stadiums tomorrow if a 17 game schedule is approved and the regular season is pushed into mid-January.
But when the time comes, maybe 10-15 years from now, to consider building a new stadium, there will be a strong push for something with a roof. When 1/3 of a team's regular schedule is played in late November to Mid-January, plus playoffs in late January, it's ridiculous to make the average fan sit in the cold for so many games.
