Warren proposes government social media censorship plan
https://nypost.com/2020/01/29/liz-warren...of-orwell/

"Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday unveiled an alarming new plan to punish companies that knowingly disseminate “disinformation” online. The Massachusetts senator’s proposal would hold firms like Facebook and Twitter criminally and civilly responsible for platforming users who spread lies intended to undermine voter turnout. She also hinted at expanding her efforts to other areas of speech.

It’s an odd position for Warren, whose own claims about her past and identity have caused her endless trouble. But it is a good example of progressives’ increasingly authoritarian and anti-free speech instincts...."

RE: Warren proposes government social media censorship plan
"...In truth, if you aren’t prepared to handle participating in the boisterous, churning, ugly and sometimes dishonest squabbles of a free nation, you probably shouldn’t be voting anyway. If a random Twitter account can convince you that Election Day is in July rather than in November, maybe you’re not prepared for the sacred duty of voting...."

A comment from the article dismissing the twitter brainwashing nonsense.
I think voting is a right and a privilege, not an obligation. If you don't know what you are voting for, don't vote.

I’ll hang up and wait for the “antifa” prancing ninjas to confront this fascist.

We’ve all called it, they always eventually eat their own. Just gonna sit back, relax, enjoy the bloody carnage

All far to predictable. Sad

While I think that big tech needs to be controlled to the extent they can’t “put their thumb on the scales” by favoring one point of view over another, who in their right mind trusts that a government entity will “oversee” such an enterprise with an even hand??? That’s the huge dilemma.

Agreed, and if you make these places fiscally liable for 'disinformation', all they're going to do is hold the line of whoever makes the decision about what is true or not. Reality doesn't matter... they'll just follow the lead of the gov arbiters who say 'This is false, remove it or pay.'
Hitler would have loved to have something like that... oh wait... he did. He made sure Newspapers didn't print anything that went against the Nazi Narrative.

I don't think it is. You simply set a simple standard that says... if the speech isn't illegal as legislated by the law makers or ruled so by courts... you don't touch it.

It's all comes down to a simple 'If its not illegal leave it alone' principle.

RE: Warren proposes government social media censorship plan
So would companies allowing messages saying Republicans are racist or want to cut Medicare be punished? Would ABC and CNN be fined billions? I think we know the answer to that.

Stupid proposals like this are why we MUST have strict Constitutionalists on the Courts especially the SCOTUS.

Looking at that Charlie Brown NYT editorial (they couldn't decide between Warren and Kouchabar). They talked about conservative courts being a threat to progressive policies. Conservative courts are no threat to legislation that is constitutional. They are a threat to government fiat.

Warren is the very definition C.S. Lewis' quote regarding moral busybodies. She knows how to run your life better than you.
