Exclamation Fall camp joint practice sessions?
The MAC has proposed allowing D1 football programs to allocate one of their allowed preseason practice sessions as a joint session with another team from a 4-year school. Such practices would not include a scrimmage, mind, and would be closed to the public: https://web3.ncaa.org/lsdbi/search/propo...?id=104102

What do you guys think of that?

More particularly, do you think it could, if adopted, eventually lead to the allowance of a preseason game?

Still more particularly, do you think it could lead to preseason games between 1-A and 1-AA teams in place of most regular season meets between the two?

EDIT: Because, you know, who isn't for the latter? Those games suck.

RE: Fall camp joint practice sessions?
I don't think we will ever see a college preseason or should we. I consider the FBS-FCS games as a "Exhibition" that counts. I'm one of the few who both enjoy and don't mind these games as they serve a purpose. Early FBS-FCS games are warm-up games and late season games of this caliber are games to rest starters. Getting a FCS team money compared to a low FBS team also.

Edit: I don't mind seeing joint practice as long as the teams don't play each other.

This would be a disadvantage for teams in rural parts of the West, who are very far away from other FBS programs. Boise, New Mexico, even Minnesota.

I understand that position. 04-cheers Those "games" just aren't for me, even those involving my own team. I might be interested in watching my Tide play a AA team if it were the first contest of the year, maybe. You know, a chance to sort of see what the strengths and weaknesses for that season might be, especially regarding the newcomers. But late in the year like we always do? No thanks. 05-nono

FTR, I see nothing inherently wrong with allowing a joint practice as proposed here.

Good point. Would be expensive. If done, best to somehow offset the cost.

Having been burned by the whole satellite camp thing, I suggest these should only be allowed if they are on the campus of the higher-classification school (i.e. P5 > G5 > FCS).

Yea, the SEC is known for late season FCS games to use as a almost bye week (should be half game for starters) it's not like other conferences can't copy it especially if they play Hawaii. A week zero conference game and use that empty conference slit for a FCS game. Most conferences play that 9th conference game I don't think the SEC does. Teams may need that FCS team to rest during conference play to reset and unwind.
