RE: Birmingham placing bids for future NCAA Tournaments
Imagine going to a NCAA regional tournament where you had Duke, Kansas, UAB, UCLA, Temple, Richmond, Robert Morris, and St Johns.

This was Stamp Jackson's and George Wilkerson's freshman season.

To be honest, you really don't know who hosting these games. It's not like you will see UAB or SEC stuff plastered all over the arena during these games.

Actually you do, if you pay attention...the host is prominently featured in the arena including areas visible during television coverage.

Gotcha. I know I couldn't tell you who was hosting the regional that was held in Columbus, Ohio in 2004 when UAB beat Kentucky. I just remember it was in a hockey arena that was pretty damn nice...lol.

But the year you are referring to is 2006 and it was the Minneapolis Regional. UAB played in Jacksonville, FL for their 1st round game against Kentucky (UK won 69-64). I went to that game and it was Rajon Rondo last season with UK.

Villanova did play their 1st Round game in Philly that year beating Monmouth and Arizona.

No. That UAB-Kentucky game was in the Washington DC regional and played at Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. I went with BlazrDawg and it was a great time, other than the outcome of the game. Hopping a ride to the arena with a Philadelphia police officer (who has relatives in Sylacauga) that was escorting the Albany team is something I will never forget.

Florida, Iona, LSU, Oklahoma, South Alabama, Syracuse, Texas A&M & Wisconsin-Milwaukee were the 8 teams playing in Jacksonville.

My mind is getting bad. I was at ANCOC at Ft. Meade in March 2006 and attended the game. Don't know why I said Jacksonville...lol.

How does a team from another conference "play a game" for that conference?

Beats me, but we played a game there so that the SEC could host the tournament.

It just has to be a DI game. Doesn’t have to be for a particular conference and exhibition games count unless that rule has changed.

I BELIEVE that a game has to be played at an arena for that arena to be eligible to host the tournament.
Once the arena is eligible, any conference can serve as host for that arena (it doesn’t have to be the conference that played that original game)

It, Was good when the blazers Brought Bob Knight. to town. Then he started to cry and we had to take the back seat. That's back when the Blazers had Fred Mitchell. That's were the Blazers got their Start should be a fun Atmosphere. See if the Blazers can get Nebraska to town. They know how to do it. Would have to get some Queens players all the guys from (players) Birmingham want to go Sec. Think I could find the players from NY City to come play and get a Mo Finly player out of Montgomery, That should do it.

Or Carter long some one that can shoot.

Should’ve been playing at legacy. Not hard to schedule a team for that event or events.

if games are gonna be played at BJCC, it needs to be a big @ss game. Not a match up vs AAMU. Nothing says little league more than playing at the BJCC, when Bham media actually care to cover us, and we bring AAMU to town.

The bartow classic should be there. Actually draw a decent opponent for it yearly. And whatever bham tip-off classic should be a game for Auburn since we tucked our tails and ran from a renewal.

I enjoyed the Auburn game at BJCC. I had no problem with the 4 year contract setup. The game at Bartow ended up close to 50-50 fans against a mediocre Auburn team. But UAB should have taken the same contract again if it was offered? The Auburn and UAB series is by far best thing about UAB nonconference basketball. It's best thing for basketball in Birmingham and if played at BJCC more fans can enjoy it

How ever you want to paint it.

We ran plain and simple we didnt win a game all was televised but one maybe so they shouldve had the sweeter deal they earned the draw.
