Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
It's pretty complicated, but I believe I have the men's tournament figured out. At this point, it does not look all that complicated for us, since we have a 3 and a half game lead over the 3 teams that are tied for 3rd place. Still a lot of games to play, but it looks like we have a great chance to finish 1st or 2nd which would mean a bye to New Orleans. So if we keep winning, we'll have 11 days off and a trip to New Orleans awaiting us when the season ends.
The situation for our girls is much more interesting at this point in time. We are currently in 3rd place, tied with CC for second but they are guaranteed to have the tie-breaker since they beat us in LR (we only play them once). We still play Troy, the best team in the league up to this point, twice. Win both, and we likely have the automatic bye to New Orleans. Split or lose both, and things could get really interesting. The women's tourney is set up different then the men's. The way I understand it, the team that finishes 3rd will host teams 10, 6, and 7, while the team that finishes 4th hosts teams 9, 5, and 6 in 2 day mini-tournaments. The 2 teams that win each mini-tournament will then head to New Orleans. Coastal beat us handily and Troy has already beat Coastal (they play again at CC). Based on the results up to this point, a 3rd place finish would appear most likely for our girls. Problem is that does not take into account that Joe's teams always get better as the season progresses. Obviously, we would want to get the automatic bye to New Orleans. But, having a mini-tournament in Little Rock would be a lot of fun. Considering we have won something like 39 of our last 40 home conference games our chances of winning the 2 games would be pretty darn good. I'm not sure playing and winning those 2 games wouldn't be an advantage as it would give Joe a chance to further "fine tune" this team before the final run in New Orleans.
