https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/preps-...its-temple

"I visited Temple today," Lynch said. "I really like the offense at Temple. When I got to campus it was really mind-blowing seeing the facilities and all of the good stuff they have to offer."

Lynch, who was drawing multiple colleges looks this winter along with already holding offers from NIU, Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Kent State, and Brown also pointed towards his relationship with the coaching staff at Temple as another factor in his decision.

"The coached at Temple are great guys and I have a good relationship with them. Temple was the first school to offer and the overall energy they bring to the table is amazing."

Loyalty also played a factor in Lynch's decision.

"Temple was the first school to offer me. They are the first school to give me a shot to play at the next level so that loyalty for me was also important."

Lynch who last season led the Caravan to the 2019 Class 7A IHSA state title and an undefeated 14-0 season discussed why he made his college decision this early, with a little less than 10 months remaining until he can officially sign a Letter of Intent.

"When I got to Temple I just had a feeling inside me about how great the school is and the football program, and I couldn't miss out on Temple so I committed

And there you have it. A fan using logic and fact, rather than emotion and opinion.

We will be fine. We got our qb of the future in Fletcher. Best of luck to Justin and coach Carey. We shall see how both develops.

Truthfully, if Carey were still around. Justin would commit to us. I know it's the answer you were looking for. But it's also the truth.

Probably correct.

While Carey may have not been liked by many on this board, he was popular with the FB players and did have a very successful long term stint at NIU.

The connections between coaches and players is sometimes more important than the school.
Clearly this is a case where Rod Carey trumps NIU. Kudu's to Carey.
He polished many players.
Many posters may have incorrectly held him to the top 25 standard, or even a more unrealistic two Orange Bowl standard. He was one win away from that second Orange Bowl, against great odds.

Rod Carey is gone and water under the bridge.
I wish him the best of luck and hopes he wins the AAC in the future.
Will always be grateful for his great success in MAC play. No other coach had 4 trips to Detroit. No other NIU coach had 3 trips to Detroit.
Dave Doeren had two, Joe Novak and Jerry Kill probably had one (if I remember correctly). All of these former NIU coaches were beloved legends.

If Thomas Hammock gets NIU to two MACC and 4 trips to Detroit, without a top 25 ranking, we should keep him and offer him $1 million to stay at NIU rather than move to the premier Non-P5 conference, which pays salaries over $1 million.

Jordan Lynch may have been the greatest QB at NIU since George Borke and a very rare gem.

Should Thomas Hammock Replicate what Rod Carey did at NIU then he is a keeper.

I do not buy , ,"the next level Expectation", when we pay our coaching staff so much less than the AAC , and less than many MAC schools.

I second that emotion

All this emotion over the younger Lynch not going to NIU. I recall Daniel Santacaterina coming to NIU after his older brother was at NIU then he left. Sometimes things don't work out. NIU moved on and so did Santa. Not the end of the world Justin Lynch not going to NIU.

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
Although it’s sad we won’t get to possibly see a reincarnation of another Lynch in Dekalb, I think this decision is best for both parties. Lynch is a dual threat QB and it’s quite obvious Hammock is wanting to bring a more pro style offense here based on recruiting so far. I’m afraid Justin would be stuck on the bench during his time here if he chose NIU.

I do also see some other good pro style QBs for 2021 have visited and received offers for
NIU as well.

Just my opinion but I don’t think Justin Lynch was ever going to be a starting QB at NIU. He’s not a Jordan Lynch reincarnate. Lol. I wish him the best.

He might be. He might not. I think Dustin Fletcher is going to be crazy to watch tho.

The two best QBs we had in the last 12 years, Jordan Lynch and Chandler Harnish, developed under better coaching staffs with Jerry Kill and Dave Doeren. Carey has shown he can't develop good QBs so chances of little Lynch being anywhere as good as Jordan are slim.

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
I'm a little confused by some of the comments about dual-threat QB Justin Lynch not being able to succeed at NIU because Hammock is installing a passing/pro-style offense. Then how the heck is dual-threat QB Dustin Fletcher going to succeed in it? Little help here?

Carey developed QBs. What Carey has shown he can’t do is recruit a QB. He developed Hare, the third best NIU QB and Maddie(who had a higher yards per rush avg than Lynch). I don’t believe any coach could develope Graham. And Hammock also said Childers wasn’t good enough and limited his offense when he started. As much as some of us loved Santa, he’s still throwing ints at a very high rate in the FCS. When Carey had a quality QB, Lynch, Hare, Maddie....they excelled. When he had bad qbs, Graham, Childers, santa... they flopped. He just could never find his own quality QB.

Tough act for him to follow. Would have been 4 years of getting compared to his big brother. Can't say I blame him.

I don’t believe he fits the style that the current coaches want. The old staff wanted a dual threat qb and I believe we are more of a pro style offense. Most successful pro qbs are becoming dual threats so maybe somewhere in the middle is the right offense to run. I wonder if Harnish or Jordan Lynch would have been recruited in this offense. Both were running qbs and not know for passing in high school. I’d take the stud qb no matter what offense they run. Definitely wouldn’t complain about offense in the Harnish and Lynch years.

Temple offense works better for him. That is thee most important issue for QB picking a school.

It does sound like Temple being the first to offer made a difference. When did they offer? One would think NIU would have been the first to offer.

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
His brother played for Carey and some key staff. Coached with Carey and some of staff. I am sure they met him numerous times when he was growing up. Likely camps. They, system helped develop his brother from a primarily running QB in HS to dual threat Heisman finalist. His brother basically installed NIUs offense under Lynch/Harnish at MC. Did anyone even see the offense MC runs, the decision making and focal point of the QB?

I can't think of why Temple would offer first, then he commits though other than he hates Hammock, NIU and loves only Rod Carey, Carey is great, Hammock sucks. Is there anything I missed? Oh, I heard Lukulo's closing was also part of it as well as his love of the cheese steaks, the ones with cheese whiz and no peppers like Chicago, and broccoli rabe at Tony Luke's. Oh, and he loves the movie Rocky, the series of them, although he hated Rocky V. Just what I know. Or was it heard 2nd hand or maybe what I think? I get them mixed up sometimes. Doesn't matter I guess.

Coaches have “their guy”. The one they recruited and are rooting for because it’s a good reflection on them. Fletcher is Hammocks guy. He doesn’t want the Lynch legacy and the pressure that may come from fans to detract from Fletcher.

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
I'm really sort of lost as to why this is a big deal....oh, I get the Carey/Lynch part of it....but we have lost out on numerous other recruits.

Remember Alec Ingold? Got an offer from a better conference and chose Wisconsin.
Ben Niemann? Got an offer from a better conference and chose Iowa.

Temple plays in a better conference...not sure how that will play out for the younger Mr. Lynch---but I can guarantee you that Rod is much more concerned about teams like Central Florida, Memphis, and Cincinnati than NIU.

I'm also pretty sure that we've lost out on numerous others that are going to play in the AAC, Big Ten, SEC, etc. It's really not that big of a deal.

Jordan will always be connected here....it doesn't give us a right or upper hand to any of the players that play for him, brother included.
