Truthfully, if Carey were still around. Justin would commit to us. I know it's the answer you were looking for. But it's also the truth.
Probably correct.
While Carey may have not been liked by many on this board, he was popular with the FB players and did have a very successful long term stint at NIU.
The connections between coaches and players is sometimes more important than the school.
Clearly this is a case where Rod Carey trumps NIU. Kudu's to Carey.
He polished many players.
Many posters may have incorrectly held him to the top 25 standard, or even a more unrealistic two Orange Bowl standard. He was one win away from that second Orange Bowl, against great odds.
Rod Carey is gone and water under the bridge.
I wish him the best of luck and hopes he wins the AAC in the future.
Will always be grateful for his great success in MAC play. No other coach had 4 trips to Detroit. No other NIU coach had 3 trips to Detroit.
Dave Doeren had two, Joe Novak and Jerry Kill probably had one (if I remember correctly). All of these former NIU coaches were beloved legends.
If Thomas Hammock gets NIU to two MACC and 4 trips to Detroit, without a top 25 ranking, we should keep him and offer him $1 million to stay at NIU rather than move to the premier Non-P5 conference, which pays salaries over $1 million.
Jordan Lynch may have been the greatest QB at NIU since George Borke and a very rare gem.
Should Thomas Hammock Replicate what Rod Carey did at NIU then he is a keeper.
I do not buy , ,"the next level Expectation", when we pay our coaching staff so much less than the AAC , and less than many MAC schools.
