Not a total surprise. Jordan loved Carey. I’m sure Jordan told his brother that his best chance of success would be in that offense.

I still don't know why we didn't offer him sooner. I hope Hammock knows what he's doing or he could look pretty silly in a couple years.

I don’t get it. I’m sure the new NIU offense doesn’t fit his strengths. But to pick Carey and temple? Does he realize this guy can’t develop QBs?

Makes, no sense , why would Joedan like Carey ?? New to the board, however, in my short duration here., all the die hards make him out to be a cancer.

As a newbie, can you guys explain how little Lynch choose Carey over the school where his brother and I went to ??

We got our star of the future. And he's Dustin Fletcher. Jordan was a special breed. He came in skinny and put the work in to become who we saw.

I bet Carey promised him the best shot at that. Plus a shot to play in a slightly better conference at the Linc of all places.
Where as Hammock probably challenged him to become that. Let's see who ends up with the better athlete.

I'd say both. We have Fletcher and they have Carey who Lynch worked with.

Figured he’d go somewhere besides NIU so as not to be compared to Jordan.

Wish him well. No biggie.

What are the facts little Lynch will become as good or better than Jordan? Hope he has a nice career at Temple. I do not follow Temple football and I do not have the time to start caring now.

Truthfully, if Carey were still around. Justin would commit to us. I know it's the answer you were looking for. But it's also the truth.

Probably correct.

While Carey may have not been liked by many on this board, he was popular with the FB players and did have a very successful long term stint at NIU.

The connections between coaches and players is sometimes more important than the school.
Clearly this is a case where Rod Carey trumps NIU. Kudu's to Carey.
He polished many players.
Many posters may have incorrectly held him to the top 25 standard, or even a more unrealistic two Orange Bowl standard. He was one win away from that second Orange Bowl, against great odds.

Rod Carey is gone and water under the bridge.
I wish him the best of luck and hopes he wins the AAC in the future.
Will always be grateful for his great success in MAC play. No other coach had 4 trips to Detroit. No other NIU coach had 3 trips to Detroit.
Dave Doeren had two, Joe Novak and Jerry Kill probably had one (if I remember correctly). All of these former NIU coaches were beloved legends.

If Thomas Hammock gets NIU to two MACC and 4 trips to Detroit, without a top 25 ranking, we should keep him and offer him $1 million to stay at NIU rather than move to the premier Non-P5 conference, which pays salaries over $1 million.

Jordan Lynch may have been the greatest QB at NIU since George Borke and a very rare gem.

Should Thomas Hammock Replicate what Rod Carey did at NIU then he is a keeper.

I do not buy , ,"the next level Expectation", when we pay our coaching staff so much less than the AAC , and less than many MAC schools.

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
Great point about "next Level". When the Huskies went to the Orange Bowl I felt I had to go because I considered it a " once in a lifetime" event for NIU football. Not saying it will never happen again. So many other games had to come out a certain way besides winning the MACC to get to the Orange Bowl. It was fun seeing the Orange Bowl Reps at the pregame. The game was amazing. Watching ESPN at the hotel seeing all the games turn out like they needed to was amazing realizing the Orange Bowl could become reality. It was the Fiesta Bowl NIU had a chance to go to if they won the MACC after the Orange Bowl year. I was planning to go to Arizona to see family and see the Huskies play a major bowl 2 years in a row. That seemed like an unthinkable accomplishment and as we know it did not happen so no trip to Arizona for me either. Now back to the topic of the thread. Good luck to Justin Lynch at Temple. His choice and hope he gains success. I am sure we will get updates on this board about his progress over the next few years.

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
How about we maybe read what he said, rather than interjecting your opinions disguised as fact, hypothesis, conspiracy theories and plain out "guessing" on the young man's decision.

https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/preps-...its-temple

"I visited Temple today," Lynch said. "I really like the offense at Temple. When I got to campus it was really mind-blowing seeing the facilities and all of the good stuff they have to offer."

Lynch, who was drawing multiple colleges looks this winter along with already holding offers from NIU, Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Kent State, and Brown also pointed towards his relationship with the coaching staff at Temple as another factor in his decision.

"The coached at Temple are great guys and I have a good relationship with them. Temple was the first school to offer and the overall energy they bring to the table is amazing."

Loyalty also played a factor in Lynch's decision.

"Temple was the first school to offer me. They are the first school to give me a shot to play at the next level so that loyalty for me was also important."

Lynch who last season led the Caravan to the 2019 Class 7A IHSA state title and an undefeated 14-0 season discussed why he made his college decision this early, with a little less than 10 months remaining until he can officially sign a Letter of Intent.

"When I got to Temple I just had a feeling inside me about how great the school is and the football program, and I couldn't miss out on Temple so I committed

Carey can’t ADAPT a QB. But if the QB comes with the right skill set he can have huge success in that offense. If he has the tools Jordan has he might be better off at Temple than the pass offense Hammock is installing.
