RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
Justin Lynch was only a junior this year. He was a backup last year as a sophmore and played behind starter Rad Premovic, and came in for gadget plays throughout the year. He got his Temple offer in June of 2019, before he even had a full season to start under his belt. Why would Temple or NIU give a scholarship to him for any reason other than he is Jordan's younger brother.

From everything I've seen and heard with Hammock so far, he is the type of dude that will make you fight for a scholarship or for play time. So with that being said, after a full year of watching Justin start in 2019 and be successful, it made sense to offer a scholarship then.

Unfortunately Justin chose to go to Temple, and that's fine. There's no way to predict he will be the next Jordan or if Dustin Fletcher will pan out. But we got our guy and they got there's. Let's see where this ends up going. IMO, Fletcher at this moment is the better athlete and has better size for the position. He's also got great arm strength and passing mechanics. But you never know what intangibles and drive Justin may have that his brother had.

There is no good excuse why NIU shouldn't have been that first school. Not offering first was a blunder. Just hope it doesn't come back to bite.

Carey helped his brother be a Heisman finalist at a MAC school...I can't imagine why anyone would be surprised or confused by this.

It's quite possible that we go another 30 years and not get a single quarterback as good as either Harnish or Jordan. That will have nothing to do with Rod, Hammock, or any of the next five or six or seven coaches we have.

How about we realize how good those two quarterbacks were--and to have them back to back was a blessing and something fun to watch?

It's also not a guarantee that someone's brother will be as good as they were. The same can be said for the kids of dominant players as well.

Michael Jordan's kids, Aaron Rodger's brother, Barry and Deion Sanders' kids....and the list goes on

IMO it's NIU/Hammock's indifference to Justin as just another player. Temple was aggressive for sure. But NIU still didn't even offer until 6 weeks after WMU. They didn't really have much interest in him. Hammock could have gone to Jordan earlier for any info on Justin if he was interested. Do you remember the only reason Jordan got recruited? It was based solely on a coaching connection between a Carmel coach and Kill. It was a favor.

Hammock can take anyone he wants. It's his team. And Fletcher is the better recruit. But to me it really felt like a token offer. If it was anyone else but Lynch's brother, the player who is basically responsible for any of NIU's "next level" dream, it would be no biggie.

Let me add that there's always more than we see. Hammock could be like…Justin doesn't really fit our offense(though Hammock has offered 2 dual threats to only 1 pro for 2021) and doesn't want him to sit on the bench for 4 years out of respect for the Lynch name.

Can you imagine the instant QB controversy determined that JL2 wasn't starting material?

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
IMO the offer seemed like obligation. If Justin Lynch was high on the list of potentials, he would have been offered earlier. I also would not envy either Hammock or Lynch the potential problems of dealing with "Version 2.0" if he didn't turn out that way. In any case. I wish him the best a long as Temple is not playing Northern in a bowl or o-o-c some time. Not that that would ever happen.

RE: Justin Lynch commits to Temple
1. This isn't embarrassing or a travesty or any other hyperbolic exclamation someone could think of.

2. It doesn't take any kind of genius to understand that Carey has a relationship with the Lynch family and Jordan and knows Justin personally (not just as a recruit).

3. If I were Justin, I'd probably have no interest in following in my big brother's footsteps at NIU.

4. It's quite possible that Hammock wasn't that high on Justin, it's not like he was getting any heavy recruiting from any of the other state schools.

5. There would be only one scenario in which the Lynch sequel saga would have played out positively and that is with Justin being the full time starter, winning the conference and winning a bowl game. Anything else would have been scrutinized and speculated and arm-chair coached to death by people who either don't have the credentials, the ability, or the knowledge to be a D-1 college coach.

6. The entire situation reeked of drama.

7. People here are getting and acting desperate.

8. If I had to choose between a MAC school or an AAC school, I'd have a real hard time choosing the MAC school especially if I had an inside track (and a personal relationship with the head coach) to start.

9. Many of ya'll need to calm down.

Do you find it unusual, that four other MAC schools reached out to Lynch, before we did?

Yeah right now I dont see NIU at a high enough elevation to even sprain an ankle if we were to jump off a ledge.

The author of the post right below yours is walking the ledge of the building about to jump.

That's one guy and he is always doing that. Not going after Lynch aggressively isn't a concern, but it is interesting and discussion worthy. If ever there was a player destined to come to NIU it would be a Justin Lynch. He's a MAC level recruit so it's not like it would have been a reach. He has an NIU alum coach. THE NIU ALUM coach. The connection is there. There's rely no reason not to pursue him. Hammock will fill out Lynch's class with some PWOs so its not like they're wasting a spot. Too many good QBs a problem at NIU all of a sudden? So it's just curious why he would not. It's not about Justin's decision. It's about Hammock's disinterest. We won't ever know the reason and there are plenty that make perfectly good sense. And even if Lynch went on to be great and Fletcher bombed out I wouldn't blame Hammock. But I would still love to know his reasoning. If the reason is "he doesn't fit the system" I would say - playmakers fit every system.

What I find unusual is that on the rivals website is that only two schools outside the MAC made offers and one was Brown. I would hope any kid has a productive and good time in college but we are not talking about a player that even lower half Power Five conferences are fawning over. I’m pretty sure outside a very, very small portion of Philly and DeKalb but nothing more than relation anyone cares. I’m willing to bet that six years from now NIU isn’t fretting over the “one that got away” and Temple’s next coach isn’t there because Justin brought the program down.
