And yes, Courtney Woods did NOT get to 2000 points but assuming she gets it on Wednesday there will be coverage of it.

I'll admit that my social media exposure is limited to Facebook. I have Twitter but I literally never check it and I have Instagram but don't follow the NIU accounts. With that said, none of the NIU Facebook accounts mentioned anything about German until after he broke the record. Nothing leading up to it. And, and this may be my own fault or social media lazyness (which I'm not ashamed of), if it's on one of them, why isn't it on all of them? They often use the same graphics on each of them, why would one account ignore something so important and noteworthy?

Some of us are older and are not on social media. How was information like this communicated before there was social media? You need to realize that many of NIU's fans are not on any social media.

Many of the Huskies fans are older (in their 70s and 80s). You will see them at the games. I will tell you this. Several that sit by me in the women's games were absolutely livid about the game time change they did not know about on Saturday and were going to call Athletics yesterday to vent some steam. These people do not live on their computers like the rest of us, and for sure they are not on any social media. How were these people to know about game time changes? Heck, how many people will show up this Saturday for a non-existent game? There are not a lot of women's and men's basketball season ticket holders. What's wrong with sending them a post card? If you have their cell phone numbers, back it up with a text or phone call. If you take these people's money for tickets, you have an obligation to ensure they are informed of any changes. Please do not assume that the entire world is on social media.

I am computer literate and a professional who lives on my computer at work. However, I am not on any social media because I have no interest in it do not want to share any information. How do you get information to someone like me, who is a donor and a season ticket holder in 3 sports? E-mails work, but you seem to prefer to disclose everything in social media. Good luck! There is an angry fanbase out there. I know because I have talked to many of them.

Great post by DogFan.
Borrowing part of a post from another thread. Considering the game should have been promoted better, blame marketing -- the lack thereof or STF.
Blame Donna Turner and her staff for failure as well. Flipped around the Chicago newscasts Saturday night, saw highlight clips from Notre Dame game, Purdue edging Northwestern at the buzzer, UIC pulling out a win at Cleveland State, DePaul losing another Big East game, Loyola hosting and beating Bradley --- but zilch on NIU. Was any extra effort made to remind Chicago folks the game was airing on CBSSN and the possibility was there for German to become the career scoring leader and perhaps even hit the 2000 milestone? Did they phone it in, text it, e-mail it, fax it, send a carrier pigeon? It's not enough to just post things on your website and it's pretty obvious at least three of the five Chicago stations were not aware.

Just for the record, another error Donna and her staff continue to make, Eugene German set the men's basketball career scoring record, instead of saying he became "NIU's all-time leading scorer." We have two basketball programs so the distinction should be made considering Lisa Foss has 2,500 career points. She broke the women's basketball career scoring record set by Carol Owens when she became the first Huskie basketball player to surpass the 2,000 point plateau finishing with 2,102.

And where was the pre-game publicity of Courtney nearing her milestone? She ended up being 2 points short, but it certainly could have been done on Saturday. How do you expect to increase attendance when you had a publicity gem with Geno and Courtney and did not take advantage of this by publicizing it? I became aware of Courtney's nearing the 2,000 point mark by reading about it in the little blurb in the game program. These athletes - and the fans - deserved a heck of a lot better.

RE: Cheerleaders/Men’s Basketball
+100 Dog Fan. I spent more than 40 years in communications -- and still do some tho retired -- and have been using computers since before the internet existed. I know about all those webites, but I don't spend my life on social media, and do not have magic texting fingers.

As for DF's last post, Northern misses so many opportunities it seems like the a.dept exists of, by and for the a.dept. Example: the cheerleaders were cut in 2017, the article I linked was published in 2018, and many on this board are hearing about it now. The band/cheerleader/silveretts cuts affected some 200-250 students (band is back, tho, thanks to L. Freeman).

Old saying: when you do something FOR someone, they will remember you for a year. When you do something TO someone, they will remember you for the rest of their life.

To which I add: and they're going to tell other people about it, especially the TO part.

And how many knew ahead of time that Woods was close to becoming the third wbb player to hit 2,000 pts? And (agree with DF) why the hell wasn't there at least some regional publicity about German and Woods?

And just a note: I am getting damn tired of being guilt-tripped into donating because I'm an alumnus. I paid my bills when I went to NIU and earned my degree. More than 100,000 (at least) alumni in the Chicago area, and where are they? The a.dept needs to wake up. Just look at the disgust on the Dog Pound alone ... and we're among the more die-hard fans.

Really interesting to read these posts. It stops and starts with STF. He needs to move on or hopefully find another job. STF is a trainwreck

RE: Cheerleaders/Men’s Basketball
One other point, pardon me: this isn't about all the social media that's out there. Most of us know about that. It's about an atttitude projected by the a.dept that many of us have been around long enough to know is damaging our Huskies ...

... not extending the courtesy of making sure your season ticket holders know about a game change, having to be hit upside the head to recognize a golden promotional opportunity, ignoring the majority of your contributing fans because their checks aren't big enough ... and the cheerleader item ... cutting a student program to (obviously) protect an admin core that doesn't promote events with students anyway.

Nobody has to post a long list of proofs, links, quotes, whatever. Under all the gray hairs out here are people who've been around the block a few times and who have experience reading between the lines. Who do they think they're kidding?

Sad to say, as the disgust gets bigger the support gets smaller (aside from us who don't have many years left anyway).

Pushing out a couple of Tweets isn't marketing. I counted 6 guys in the student section for the men's game on Saturday.

Talked to someone about NIU cheerleading. This is completely a club program now.

I guess they rented a van to get out to the Nebraska and Vandy games that they all chipped in on. I kind of feel like for a D1 program, that seems kind of Busch league. These girls work hard and deserve a little more than that. Heck, even high school teams get more support/funding than that.

Athletics should be ashamed of themselves. You just don’t do this. As I previously mentioned, I will try to contact the cheerleaders coach in order to make a nice donation. Then, I will reduce my HAF donation by that amount and let them know why I am reducing my donation.

I am hating this administration more and more every day. STF needs to go....and as soon as possible.

I talked to a kid on the baseball team too. Part of the draw to NIU was a new baseball stadium. That kid is graduating and will never play in the stadium he was promised.

I think I will do the same this year and reduce my athletic fund donation to donate to NIU cheerleading. They play a part in the games too, and they deserve more than this.

Also, make note of warm hotdogs!

Too bad that kid didn’t go to UIC. Now THAT’S a stadium!

I’m afraid if we want warm hot dogs, we’ll need to sneak in a hot dog warmer (with a separate bun moistener).

I'd gladly take cheerleaders at all basketball games over those "Smoke Dog" football jerseys...

They also got to fix whatever software or camera/mic set up they have for the weekly press conferences at Fatty's....that's not even SDTV quality

RE: Cheerleaders/Men’s Basketball
Just out of curiousity ... I was re-reading the article I linked earlier from 2018 that said athletics cut the cheerleaders the year before (2017) ... and it occurred to me ... what happened to the cheerleader staff? They now are a club with a volunteer coach.

I realize the cheerleaders are a higher priority to most fans, but does anyone know the status of the Silverettes and their staff? I saw their email is the Studio M Dance Company in Sycamore. I remember their sterling performances at home football games, and even a performance at halftime with the band at a game at Wisconsin. At one time, as I recall, they were an award-winning dance team.

Another one of STF's "quiet cuts" we're only just finding out about? Or were they moved to fine arts? Or just out the door?

And r.e. to the comment about uniforms ... STF bragged not too long ago about a new uniform deal (adidas?). So now the teams can change duds three times a week. Whatever happend to all the talk about the importance of "branding? And how do you establish a brand without consistency?

Honestly, i feel like the marketing, social media, and cold-calling individuals about game time changes, purchasing tickets, donations, etc. could be done for free. You have a ton of NIU students on campus who are marketing, communications, and art/graphics majors. Have them come on as interns so that they can gain working experience to add to a resume for when they graduate and are looking to enter the job market. Work with professors on campus who teach those types of courses and they could easily help steer NIU students into those internships.

Of course! But, that would make too much sense, which means Athletics would never do that. This administration is so inept and inconsiderate of normal fans and season ticket holders that they would not know how to do the right things even if they bit them in the face.

Over the years, many of us have noted the issues and have made suggestions and mentioned marketing ideas - and we know the administration reads this board - but rarely a thing has been done. On occasion, I have even written directly to Athletics. And, I'd be willing to bet that the Huskie Fan Advisory Board has made some decent suggestions that have been thrown in the wastebasket. Nothing will change this administration unless a mega donor requests changes, and most likely that won't happen.
