Cheerleaders/Men’s Basketball
What’s up? and why haven’t the cheerleaders been at men’s basketball game? I have counted one game this season where cheerleaders attended. It’s bad and embarrassing enough that we usually only have 4-6 silverettes at games. The support and production of things at NIU basketball games is so bad I can barely stand it. How about the people in charge of the entertainment at the games attend a Chicago White Sox game and just copy some of the things they do. They also have trouble drawing fans so see what they do to help draw fans and entertain them. First thing is bring back the pre-game montage with Kenny Battles 360 slam. Everyone enjoys seeing the basketball history of NIU. How about a race on the video board of different Huskie dogs people love those stupid things. Have 3 different dog stamps and stamp everyone then whichever one wins give away some stupid prize I.e. chicken nuggets

Cheerleaders couldn't make the game because they had an event elsewhere so they could fundraise for their club.

That’s not true! It was my idea that I had bugged STF about forever now that turned into victor e. Pub. I am not a 50k donor. When victor e.pub reaches its full potential likely next season I would’ve like to see a few 50 inch TVs in there. One on our game and the others on silent but on other sporting events. So far it is growing with each game.

They’ve made it once this year! Cheerleaders aren’t apart of athletics anymore? And are just a club now? Whatever they are I don’t believe they would miss a football game. The support for basketball is horrible!

I agree. They should be there, what the hell is going on?

Sorry to hear your comments. I am sure it is frustrating for you the fans who show up, along with the Huskie athletes who are working hard on the court.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want games to eventually become the thing to do then our attendance will grow! If you think about it why should fans come if our schools own cheerleaders have better things to do!

NIU wants to be big time but they never will be. I have been to several Marquette and DePaul women's basketball games this year and they always have s full squad of cheerleaders. I cannot even imagine the cheerleaders not showing up at one of the men's game.

They did have the Silverettes (maybe 8 or 10?). I've never been clear why they have 2 sets of cheerleaders.

My sincere apologies, dc1. I deleted my earlier post about having to be a $50,000 donor to get STF to listen because when I re-read it, it was too unfair and 100% negative. Too much of that around here, imo.

I agree 100% with you that making the Convo, etc., the places to be by adding peripheral attractions is a good strategy. Was pleased to see Touchdown Village at football and the Victor E. Pub. And NIU needs more of that. Otherwise, it's park, sit, watch, go home. A lot of these ideas are not expensive or rocket science.

Some fans won't make noise without a prompt, which is what the cheerleaders do. I was not aware they didn't show up. And there is a lot of week outside of actual games when fundraising can be done. In fact, what would be wrong with a little subtle fundraising in the concourse? Sell some sports-related gizmo and keep the profit. Maybe get some gizmo-maker to split 50-50.

Was at the game today.

Frankly, it’s the band that really makes a difference. Really appreciate the larger numbers there today and this past fall with football.

Unfortunately, we are a BCS school in name only, but we act like an FCS school. I sit with a few older people at the women’s game. They arrived late because the tickets said 1:00 pm and they weren’t aware that the game was moved to noon. They are in their 70s and 80s are not computer people and certainly not on social media. They were absolutely livid all game. If NIU changes game times, they have an obligation to inform season ticket holders in every way possible. A call and/or a post card would have done the trick. These are season ticket holders for over 20 years. At least 3 of them will be calling Athletics on Monday to blow off some steam. They said this will certainly impact future donations.

I’d be p***** too. These recent time changes are because of CBS picking up the men’s games I guess.

If you think they’re upset. Just wait for the folks who show up next Saturday as that game was recently moved to Friday night for CBS.

Also, where was the publicity for Geno and Courtney this week? These are major accomplishments! What better way to help boost attendance? I did not know about Courtney going for 2,000 points until I read it in the game program. They should feel embarrassed, but they are simply too dumb.

The only publicity I am aware of was on the official website -- buried in the pre-game stories -- and on this board.

My wife came with me on Saturday for the first time in a while. She had the same comment about no cheerleaders.

Yep, my wife and I were talking about it at the game. She thought that maybe they were at a competition. However, if this has happened more than once, there’s obviously an issue here. I’m not sure if the cheerleaders get the credit they deserve from the administration. I know they need money and would love to see them do some fundraising at the games.

BTW, speaking of administration, I actually saw STF at the game. He was chatting with the big donors in the courtside seats.

That cannot be our coach? If it is, what is the administration thinking?.
