I was thinking they probably have replaceable endzone inserts that could be used for Temple games. It does seem like a reasonable alternative so they arent at the mercy of the Eagles. I'd rather they just get their on campus stadium project approved.
I agree that FF would be a good alternative, if the parties can't come to an agreement, and hope that Temple is using the option of playing their games at FF as a bargaining chip.
However, from the perspective of Temple fanbase, the Linc is preferred, and the program has gotten stronger during its seasons playing there.
The Eagles' owner (Jeff Lurie) hasn't been very easy to deal with, seems to prefer not hosting collegiate FB, and has driven a hard bargain. There were some reports that he was demanding a threefold increase (from $1 million/game to $3 million/game), or thereabouts, with Lurie attempting to capitalize on the increase in the ESPN payments.
The stadium was largely paid for by PA taxpayers, and is leased, not owned by the Eagles. Thus, some kind of accomodation should be made by Lurie, but he's been practicing the art of the deal, so to speak.
Whether city or state officials would be able to intervene on Temple's behalf is not clear.
If they can't play FB at the Linc, Franklin Field would certainly be an option, although attendance might be 25% or 33% lower, depending on how well the team plays. If Temple could get FF for half the price, it would make a lot of sense, even though it is an old-fashioned FB experience, without the bells and whistles of an NFL stadium.
Issues that Temple fans have raised about Franklin Field:
1) Inadequate, substandard bathrooms and mediocre refreshment facilities
2) Few of the amenities, such as giant screens, found at the Linc
3) Inadequate parking, increased travel time from suburbs, traffic congestion, and limited tailgating opportunities
4) Greater reliance on public transportation
5) Having to play on another school's field
6) Fewer creature comforts, such as seating
