Scaling way back on any 'celebration' though - looks like it's only in 2022 vs. Army. I suppose the bonus is that it gives the AAC a secondary tie, though.

Too bad we didnt pursue this one more. A full 6 year tie featuring an AAC vs Pac12/BYU/Army rotation would have been a nice bowl for us.

Really wish we could get the Liberty bowl and Independence bowls as full-time tie-ins and drop a couple lesser bowls. I love the Liberty bowl.

Meh, its better than the New Mexico Bowl or one of these other craptistic bowls against a Sunbelt team signed for 2020-2025.

Yeah I agree with this completely. Lots of chances for solid match-ups. Maybe in the next cycle depending on how things shake out. Will be interesting to see how these bowl pools shake out next season for the others. Hopefully in the leagues favor.

I wonder if the concern is the ability to fill all our bowls each year. Might be why they didn’t give it to us.

Also, they probably wanted someone higher in the conference standings then we were willing to give up to play. Not a bad idea. More exciting matchups, rotate the teams etc. Smart play by the Independence bowl folks.

I like the idea of a Pac-12 match up as UC doesn't get much exposure playing those teams. I think UCLA and OSU are the only 2 Pac teams in the last 15 years.

Historically we haven't played many of those PAC12 schools ever. We've played UCLA 2x, Oregon State 2x, Washington once back in the 70s. We played Arizona State 2x and Colorado once but that was back when ASU was in the WAC and Colorado was in the Big 8.

What is the Independence bowl payout? I think that will decide how often the AAC will play in the game, because I don't think that Army or the PAC12 will have available teams that often.

$6.50 to be split between the schools. $3.50 to the winner and $3 to the loser. 03-drunk

It's a nice lower level Bowl for us. Hopefully we luck into being able to take Army or BYU spot a year when the PAC fills their spot.

This is no big deal, it is a once in a while bowl spot for a lower to mid level AAC school. I will take it, but I sure wont be jumping for joy over it.
Heck even CUSA got a piece of it.04-jawdrop
