yep, I agree with this. Now, if we had given up a player so Jayden could be on scholarship I would have an issue with it. Not anything about his skill level, even if he were James Wiseman level, if we were full on scholarships he should walk on.

You know I just accepted the open scholarship statement.

I should have known better, especially getting info here.

We have 13 used scholarships this year.

Baugh
Lomax
Harris
Precious
Lester
Lance
Maurice
Wiseman
Hardaway
DJ
Malcolm
Boogie

AND

Stokes

Yeah, forgot about Stokes. But he was a late add in late August. So the overall point remains. Jayden being on scholly costs us nothing this year. He didn't take a scholly away from anyone.

We kept a scholly open waiting on kid who ended up in Australia.

To do that, that meant we didn't have space for Wingett or Jones...So we cleared space.

Not sure about "clearing space". We did need 1 scholly opened, and were holding the scholly for RJ. But he was out in May. Wingett was a talent level discussion. The Jones discussion - there were supposedly other things at play. I still can't see how Jayden's scholly cost us to miss out on anyone.

It's a fair discussion about who should be on scholly and who shouldn't. I'm just not sure we have all the facts.

Penny gave the University $1 million dollars out of pocket and you think he needs or wants a token of goodwill from the University that totals around $60 thousand dollars?

LOL.

Man, can you get anymore of that?

I have been looking for the good stuff for awhile and YOU have found it.

Is that a tongue in cheek comment or is it really difficult to find the good stuff now?

Short drive across the bridge and you can get it legally, up to 2.5 oz per week.

Not without an Arkansas address and ID

Quote:To get one, Arkansas requires residents provide documentary proof of legal presence and identities (via one primary document -- passport or birth certificate); proof of residency (via one secondary document, such as an out-of-state driver's license or a photo work ID, utility bill or phone bill); and proof of Social Security number (two documents, such as a paycheck stub or a W-2 form).

You're adding evidence to the theory without realizing it. Truth is, Penny doesn't need Jayden on scholly. In fact, he doesn't need the $1M salary at all. So why take the scholly and the salary? Might be to give cred to Jayden. It also might be an idea offered by the admin.

But I never said I believed it. Was just sort of floating the idea while deciding how valid it might be.

I will take an ounce of it right now.

I want to float and decide how valid as well.

New question: do you know of or have heard of anyone who has done this in West Tn with a TN ID?

Unless something changed, Penny picked up more than 50% of the cost of taking the team to the Bahamas. The total cost was right at $ 200,000. Large donors picked up some of the cost, Penny did the rest.

griff, the fact that you post this and no one responds speaks volumes to the level of entitlement(?) that most Tigers fans have in regards to Penny investing in this program - PERSONALLY. I would challenge anyone, what other coach would do this?

Yes he is. We just need to be patient and Penny needs to keep recruiting at a high level.

We may have very well won it all had Wiseman not bailed on us all.

I didn't respond because I had no idea how factual it was...

Seems a little far fetched...

I don't run in those circles. I assume you meant major college coach, not team. So tell me, is this an iso event? If so, it would further validate my assertion.

I did not. ISO event?
From what I understand, this is a trip the NCAA allows teams to take every 4 years. I highly doubt the coach at Kansas or Kentucky has to pay for half of it.

You're still making my point. Penny is awesome for doing it, even more so if he is a one of the very few college coaches who not only has the ability to do so, but also has the wherewithal in this regard. Sad that he would "have to" though if that is the case.
