I wouldn't call that petty, I'd call that down right stupid.

So you would use a scholarship when he can walkon and you could pay his way and use the scholarship on another player...

See that is where I stand...If you can get an extra player on scholarship by paying for your son...You do it. It is advantage that should be exploited.

Don't they have one open schollie this year? So there is really no opportunity cost.

Well...

I guess that depends on how you look at it.

Jones...Wingett...Possibly Boyce since he wasn't on scholly either (don't know if that was a factor in his decision)

But there is an open schollie. So having Jayden walk-on makes zero difference.

Walk-ons don’t have the same perks as scholly players. Not sure what he differences are but there are some.

yep, I agree with this. Now, if we had given up a player so Jayden could be on scholarship I would have an issue with it. Not anything about his skill level, even if he were James Wiseman level, if we were full on scholarships he should walk on.

Could also be as simple as, Penny is giving us a bargain on his salary. It's not like he needs the money, but allowing Jayden on scholly could be a way of supplementing his compensation while we're still paying off Tubby and Pastner. Money comes from 2 different buckets. Maybe the Admin offered it as a token of appreciation for his willingness to help us out with compensation.

just a theory

Unless something changed, Penny picked up more than 50% of the cost of taking the team to the Bahamas. The total cost was right at $ 200,000. Large donors picked up some of the cost, Penny did the rest.

Yeah, forgot about Stokes. But he was a late add in late August. So the overall point remains. Jayden being on scholly costs us nothing this year. He didn't take a scholly away from anyone.

Penny gave the University $1 million dollars out of pocket and you think he needs or wants a token of goodwill from the University that totals around $60 thousand dollars?

LOL.

Man, can you get anymore of that?

We kept a scholly open waiting on kid who ended up in Australia.

To do that, that meant we didn't have space for Wingett or Jones...So we cleared space.

Short drive across the bridge and you can get it legally, up to 2.5 oz per week.

You're adding evidence to the theory without realizing it. Truth is, Penny doesn't need Jayden on scholly. In fact, he doesn't need the $1M salary at all. So why take the scholly and the salary? Might be to give cred to Jayden. It also might be an idea offered by the admin.

But I never said I believed it. Was just sort of floating the idea while deciding how valid it might be.
