Teach business law and entrepreneurship at a university.

Before that I was shareholder in a consulting firm that we built from scratch to about 250 people, and then sold to a VC group. Before that I did bankruptcy and administrative law. Before that I was a CPA doing audits. Before that I was a naval officer.

What I do for a living — communications professional — copywriter and editor, graphic designer, website content manager, email marketer for a small company.

What will surprise most of you since I'm a member of the creative class — I'm a conservative WOMAN, married 31 years to the same man, mother of two, grandmother of 2.

Long retired. Most of my working career, I was a business consultant for Coopers & Lybrand, which later merged into Price Waterhouse Coopers.

Before that I was manager of two garment plants, and afterwards, I spent several years building custom homes, before I retired for good.

These days, I live near Auburn, AL, occasionally travel to Memphis for football & basketball games, travel to various tailgates of other teams, and travel elsewhere with my sister. I also love grilling, and I belong to a gun club and target shoot for fun. So don't try to break into my house, lol.

P.S. I'm a Navy vet, too.

RE: What Do You Do For a Living?
As the name suggests, I was in commercial banking for over 25 years, a big part of that financing commercial real estate projects over a 5 state area. The last dozen or so years I lead commercial banking teams across all the disciplines (real estate, commercial&industrial, treasury management, public finance, floor plans, etc.) with a regional footprint. Worked for everybody from community banks up to JP Morgan. I found in banking that I had a 5-6 year shelf life at an employer. After that amount of time changes in executive management, culture, etc. would turn it into a place where I would rather not be.

I left banking in late 2015 and opened a consulting firm. Mainly I middle man between companies and banks since I know how banks work, where they can give, and free management up to run their company instead of working with bankers.

I usually get to Auburn for at least one football game (Iron Bowl when it is at Jordan-Hare, various games in other years). My brother is an Auburn grad and has a place in Stillwaters, and we stay there and drive into the game and other events. Was at the Kick 6 and the 2019 game, so I've seen some pretty amazing football.

After starting out with a career in sports PR, I realized a long time ago that's fun (and I still work Rice games doing the stats and have been doing that for 25 seasons) but it doesn't pay the bills. I now work for my local city.

Bragging on the oldest for a moment, she's going to Purdue University next year to study engineering and has received a Presidential Scholarship, which will certainly help with some of the out of state tuition.

RE: What Do You Do For a Living?
Ive only had one job since I graduated college. Im a 36 year manager in a medium sized wood products manufacturing facility. I never looked for other work because I liked the people I worked for..made a decent living.. and I live 2 minutes from my office and love coming home for lunch and taking long lunch naps. The company has changed hands in the last 2 years and the paradigm has changed. I can retire tomorrow if I wish...and I will... if anyone screws with me one iota. I could care less now.07-coffee3

Sports PR work is fun if you can do it on the side, but it's no way to make a living. I did stats for Rice for 36 years, UH when Ted Nance was there, Oilers for a while, and occasional gigs for the SWC, Texas Rangers (when I was working in Dallas), and several failed franchises--Houston Gamblers, Houston Angels, Texas Terror/Houston Thunderbears, and a few more not memorable enough for me to recall.

Well, I actually live in Smiths Station, but nobody knows where that is, lol.

That makes at least 5 on this board from around Auburn/Opelika. We need to meet up sometime for dinner or drinks, or a football game.

RE: What Do You Do For a Living?
What keeps me coming here rather than other political/current events boards?? All the posts above. I have gone to a few other boards that have a much larger clientele, but always return here.

I've told my wife more times than she would care to remember that there are many, many smart individuals that frequent here. What we do for a living reinforces that. Dumba$$es don't hold the jobs listed above.

The other busier boards force one to try and filter out the ignorant. Here, even if on opposite sides of the political spectrum - mostly the members are intelligent........it's why I like it here.
