It's not who you let in ... It's who you let out.

Standardized tests don't mean nothing. But they also don't mean everything or near everything.

I really hate it when people say you are just learning to a test. You learn a ton of basic math and reading skills in preparing for the ACT/SAT. It really makes you a better student. It also makes you better at performing under stress and managing your time. Minority students have a ton of free help in the area of preparation that many do not take advantage of that levels the field to at least get the 18 that I think NIU required. We are coddling this generation to an extent that we will not produce functional human beings to replace the current generation.

So are they still using ACT/SAT scores for people with a GPA lower than 3.0?

Yea, and how do you get good enough grades to get a 3.0 if you can't study for a test in high school? What are they planning on doing for the tests in college?

The headline says "Northern Illinois University will no longer use ACT, SAT score for admissions". And if you actually read the article it STILL says that. The only difference is that you automatically get in if you have a 3.0 GPA. So they ARE getting rid of ACT/SAT scores.

That's what I was thinking. Currently, most of my classes are set up so that 80% of my overall grade is test grades and 20% is Homework and projects. I get they're doing this to level the playing field but it will never be that way. The students who can afford to hire private tutors at the library or can afford to buy chegg/coursehero subscriptions will still have this unfair advantage once in school. Hell, I was really jealous last semester when the football player scored the highest on every exam because he had access to special athletics tutors that the rest of us didn't.

Yep. And any advantage some students might have in testing scores - wealth, whatever - would also apply to GPA.

That's why we had the Chance program, wasn't it?

100% CORRECT.

But it's like politics. You are trained to not think like that nowadays, one side it right, one is wrong. Or, I'm right, you are wrong.

No in between.

Exactly. Also, High school seems harder and more competitive now. Doing home work in high school? ACT and SAT prep courses? LOL at least I don't remember that kind of stuff.
