Last spring, ODU recruited a 6'9 220lb center from Greece. At that time he had a knee injury. So far this year, he is dressed and I believe he played in a game for about two minutes. With ODU's current depth, I wonder if this guy will play this year. I don't think he could redshirt, but having an injury he might be able to. If any one knows the story behind this, please advise.

Under our present condition, if this guy can play but isn't because of JJ, he did not need a scholarship!

He's a international freshman coming off a knee injury. Some players need more time to develop than others.

He should have NEVER played this year and the plan was for him not to play. Why they put him in for a meaningless 2 minute appearance is beyond me. They blew a redshirt year.

I've watched this guy run. I don't think his knee is so much a problem as him simply being flat footed and incapable of running.

A medical isn’t out of the question. If, for example, he was shut down due to his knee not being ready, a medical could be filed (way too many details to get into this on a messageboard).

They went overseas to get a 6'-9" center they could develop? Seems they could have done that with a local guy.

JUst from my limited perspective watching warmups he looks extremely slow. I can't imagine him keeping up in game action at that pace.

Let's not throw the towel in on him yet. There is a good chance he's still has four years. Bigs seem to have a harder time coming back from knee injury.

That doesn't answer the question unless throwing him in a game for 2 minutes was just JJ being petty and vindictive? Like, he isn't good enough to see action, but because he doesn't want to actively redshirt, throw him in a game for 2 minutes solely to teach him a lesson?

How many chances have they had to put him in the game? We've been in a ton of close games.

I still don't understand why people's first reaction is to point to negative things like petty and vindictive.....the coaching staff has no reason to be petty or vindictive with their players.

Why do we care if we develop bigs from US or another country?

Why not save money with the recruiting budget and create better ties with the school by recruiting someone from the region? Also, they should surely be able to get more first hand looks at the kids that are within a couple hours drive than someone playing in Greece. If this kid was a star coming to the program - like Laughton or Lee were - then it would make sense. These last two from Greece don't seem to make alot of sense.

Who is to say there are kids that are within a couple hours drive that are just as good and willing to play at ODU? Who is to say that the relationships developed with coaches in greece won't produce a big time recruit that wants to attend ODU because of who has come over?

No problem with foreign players. If they can play. Everyone else seems to find them. Why can't we?

The last few 6'9" foreign players we got turned out to be pretty good.

You're simply trying to argue about something now. We can play the "Who is to say" game all day long if you wish.

The two hours comment was simply a "for instance" and not meant to be a limiting factor. Surely there are lots of sizeable guys that could be taken on as a "project" within a 2 hour drive from Norfolk, right? You realize that in approximately two hours one could drive well into eastern and mid-NC and west to at least the Richmond and its supburbs.

The main point being, do you really think that it is necessary to go so far as Greece to get what they have gotten thus far to support the ODU basketball teams? I'm guessing not. Frankly, what what we have witnessed thus far, neither of them would be hard at all to replace.

We are talking about a true freshman. Unless we know what he will be in 2-3 years, then I have no idea what other options were out there that were interested in ODU.

We previously discussed (your point) that we had to have big guys. Now that we got one, we should have stay in the States for a big player?
