Free throws almost killed us, but we defended the hell out of it at the end and Toledo had no answer. Glad to get our first conference win against them. I vastly overestimated how good they are.
A win is a win........FT once again almost cost us! Toure and Montero were the difference! We finally won a close game! This team isn't that far away from being 4-4 in the MAC! Remember, we've this same group next year minus a huge loss in Toure! Did James even play?

I can easily see EMU going 5-5 for the remainder of the season. Which makes the “should have been 4-4” that much more significantly can’t. It’s unfortunate for the slow start to put such a damper on the season.

Yes!! We are 7 - 10 in D-I games which is so-so, but it feels more like 4 - 10.

I've watched all of their MAC games this year and they have not played at the level they did today, not even close! I may be guilty like Sam of overestimating Toledo's talent but Knapke is a proven horse and Toure outplayed him today convincingly. Of course it helps when you are not on the bench in early foul trouble. The rest of the team just showed far more hustle today, we seemed first always to any loose ball. Toledo may be suffering from the same high expectation disease we had last year but they are still much better than the Miami and Ohio teams that we lost three games to.

We have now settled to a 5 to 7 player rotation Spottsville is making care of the ball better than the other guys handling the point

Toure played 39 minutes, including the entire 2nd half. That has to be a career high for him. Surprisingly, he didn’t look gassed by the end. Get ready for more heavy minutes, Boubacar.

I wasn’t a big fan of shrinking the rotation that far. Chris Barnes shouldn’t be a scratch, and Dillard needs more than 3 minutes. Murphy is obviously desperate for wins, and the guys got the job done today.

Spottsville was very good again today, especially defensively. Missed a few layups (as Jerry mentioned), but at least he is now a threat offensively. That’s all we need from him.

He seems like he’d be more confident than he actually is. Very vocal, emotional player. But there have been too many games where he’s either passed up open shots, or didn’t take them immediately. Today, he looked confident, and it paid off. He hit some awesome contested threes that killed Toledo momentum. Hope this game gives him some confidence to build off of.

Fabulous post Sam. Toure's minutes heretofore have been largely restricted by his penchant for silly fouls, today he avoided them and his performance dwarfed Knapke's. He flat out dominated the paint.

I, like you was baffled why Spottsville was starting and playing so much early in the season. His line drive shooting stroke is atrocious. He is, however, very quick and Jackson could not guard him driving to the basket. He was our assist leader and our second leading rebounder! Chalk one up for Murph, our bad.

I agree about the rotation issue as well. Toledo got only 16 minutes from their bench and they simply got exhausted at the 3/4 point of the game. Due to injuries they have little depth, Toure absolutely had his way when Knapke went to the bench for just two minutes. That being said, future opponents are unlikely to suffer the same malady.

Dillard, Barnes and James all need to see the court, if not for this season's benefit, at least for future investment. Nevertheless Murph ABSOLUTELY needed a win and I will not question his strategy today.

The conference season has been weird.

Normally when there are a lot of close games they frequently break both ways, for and against.

However, in the conference season we've had most of our games decided by what 5 or less points.

Presumably we'll start getting breaks... Hopefully soon.

And we did yesterday. BTW, talk about this crazy season, fast start and then things go badly.

Toledo was 4 points from being undefeated after 10 games, then they, too, started losing.

RE: Game Week Toledo
Since Spottsville has started

Yesterday 8 assists vs. 12 turnovers

Miami game 10 assists vs 14 turnovers

Still not great but a vast improvement over our previous conference games

Hopefully he continues to improve

Nice crowd turnout yesterday beer promotion

Fast start playing no body’s, then things go as expected we play against teams that are better than us. The biggest difference yesterday is that I sat as far away as possible and didn’t put the flag. Otherwise same old same old got lucky. Toledo is a bad team they played worse than we did which is a lousy way to win.07-coffee3 But hey a win is win as sunshine Steve says. 03-lmfao03-lmfao
